Hello, after my suggestions for the ÖBB Railjet and the ÖBB 2070, I now start this suggestion thread for the ÖBB 1144 or 1142 locomotive and the CityShuttle-wagons. They're equivalent to the BR 111/110 and the N-wagens I would say and they're really much in use across Austria too - and even across borders sometimes. ÖBB 1144 The 1144 is known as "Alpenstaubsauger" (Mountain vacuum cleaner) and is a really well-known Austrian loco. The top speed is 160 kph, build date: 1989-1995 and 217 were built of them. They're in use for passenger trains (e.g. with Dostos on the Semmeringbahn, with CS wagons in Upper Austria and Salzburg, etc.) but also for freight trains in whole Austria and even Germany. There is also a data sheet by ÖBB: https://produktion.oebb.at/dam/jcr:a0845f00-d9d0-4b2f-9a86-c9830fbbbc69/1144.pdf Alternative loco: ÖBB 1142 The 1142 (former 1042) is also a well-known Austrian loco. It has the same services as the 1144 and looks pretty similar, but different though There're 258 of them, built 1963-1977 and with a top speed of 150 kph. There're also much different versions of it possible, with big or small lamps, with the old "Pflatsch" or the newer ÖBB-Logo, etc. Data sheet: https://produktion.oebb.at/dam/jcr:e1f446da-6a6e-4474-977f-bd20244caaa6/1142.pdf CityShuttle wagons The CityShuttle wagons base on the "Lange Schlieren" that were already used around the 80s. This wagons are a pretty common sight in Austria too, alongside the 4024 for example and has the same purpose. 566 wagons and 152 cab cars were produced and the top speed is 160 kph. The retirement of this wagons already began in 2016.
A very common sight and almost as important as the DoSto wagons seen in nearly any german DLC. A must have for any upcoming austrian route.
btw are CityShuttle carriages ever used to full 160 kph? because on Marchegger Ostbahn where they run with 1144, with all of them capable of 160 and the upgraded route also, it "only" runs 140, tho it reaches that speed rapidly and holds it almost all the time outside Vienna would definitely love these, but also the Wiesel / modernized CityJet dostos (modernized ones have different internals, different seating and such)... and would definitely help if they tweaked 1116 a bit (AFB behavior, LZB shenanigans etc)... and if we had 1144, CityShuttle and Wiesels, we could have Camel Hump train
The CityShuttle carriages are used to the full 160 kph on services from Graz to Selzthal and further to Linz(IC/D often with IC coaches and a CityShuttle cab car and sometimes also standard CityShuttle carriages), Salzburg(similar to the trains to Linz) and Innsbruck(IC with IC and CityShuttle carriages mixed) on the (admittedly not that long) section from Trieben to near Büschendorf (as long as the train is not pulled or pushed by a 1142). Also the R/REX services from Linz to Passau use CityShuttle carriages with an 1144 (or 1142) if they aren't using a Talent (4024) or Desiro ML (4744/4746). The same is true for the shorter R services from Neumarkt-Kallham to Passau, however I don't know if they get up to 160 kph.
I am guessing they are limited to 140 kph on Marchegger Ostbahn for operational reasons, since both the loco and carriages are ok for 160 kph and so are the switches (those are highspeed switches rated for 200 or so kph) a bit off topic, I know, but I am closely watching construction progress on Kittsee-Parndorf route from Bratislava to Vienna, and of course the Marchegger Ostbahn, the route via Schonfeld Lassee, to Bratislava... they are repairing and electrifying short section from Devinska Nova Ves to state border (plus upgrade to 120 kph)... on Austrian side, they upgraded the whole line to double track and electrified it, and REX/regional trains blast through that one at 140 kph almost constantly (longest straight stretch of track in Austria), and I am guessing once the Slovak portion is wholly electrified and they send RailJets and IC via there, one might also see 160 - 200 kph trains there ok, done now lol
I'd buy a ÖBB 1144. I love the looks on that loco and it was one of my favourite locos to drive in TSC.
Would love the 1144 with CityShuttle carriages and cabcar! The 1144 is my favourite ÖBB loco and perfect for EC+IC services and regional trains. It delivers great looks and an unique sound. (1014 and 1142 are great too) Together with Eurofima carriages it would cover many years of ÖBB traffic. Thats a huge asset if DTG wants to build new routes in the past. As there are 4024 for suburbantrains and 1116 for highspeed already in the game, something in the middle is missing.
a bit ago I had a joyride on 1144 + CityJet Dostos, and it was a REX to Krems via Tulln, I was travelling to Tulln, and it was at Wien Franz Josefs Bahnhof... the stretch between that one and Heiligenstadt is almost wholly under buildings, Franz Josefs Bahnhof platforms are specifically at ground floor, so as the loco sat there, it was rumbling mightily
CityShuttles fahren ihre volle Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 160 km/h nur gemischt mit anderen Wagen im Zugverband aus, da wegen der nichtvorhandenen Mg-Bremse ansonsten Bremshundertstel fehlen.
ooooh, thats why... but still it was nice to ride em at 140 kph ... thanks for explanation, tho I had to use Google Translate
