For those currently affected by the red danger to life weather warning. This will pass soon. Please don't go outside if you can help it. And stay safe everyone.
We have red flag warnings for conditions that bring an elevated fire risk. What's a red weather warning?
Had no power, no heating and no internet all day. Just got it back. Thank god. Another storm due Sunday though.
I had power for about 3-4 hours yesterday evening and now it's gone again. Our whole street was pitch black the whole night.
I hope all my brothers and sisters across the pond are staying safe and comfortable. I read an article yesterday that the high winds you're facing right now are so extreme that commercial flights across the Atlantic are breaking the speed of sound... https://jalopnik.com/wild-weather-pushes-passenger-jets-over-the-speed-of-so-1851746900 We've had high winds here in New York, but nothing remotely like that.
You do have towers multiple times the height of my building though. And I was definitely not comfortable with the motion here on the top floor yesterday.
I'm not quite that far downstate, closer to Albany, but we're in the Hudson River Valley between the Catskill and Berkshire mountain ranges which tends to break up some of the bad gusts and weather. Lots of fields and hills and mountains, not too many tall buildings where we live. Although crossing any of the tall Hudson River bridges can be a bit exciting when it's windy, and if you're on I90 or I87 with little to no tree coverage cars turn into sail boats very quickly lol. My wife works on the Empire Plaza in the city of Albany towards the top of one of the smaller buildings, and like you, she is not crazy about the motion either. She said the earthquake that hit us last spring was especially uncomfortable.
Driver's stopped a bunch on my journey up the ECML to Edinburgh today, apparently inspecting a bunch of track. So far only had one Karen whining about it to the train staff who can't really do anything about it.
Had so much bad weather here today woke up 7:30 to hailstones, which isn't bad but thinking I was at a concert the night before (surprised it wasn't cancelled) and was awake until 1am, the Thunder and lightning was mental earlier though. Very mental these past few days overall.
Apparently they are pathing a class 37 to test the line Infront of some trains as close as one signal block ahead.
Luckily not too bad in North Wessex. Bit windy and quite a lot of rain, but the roof stayed on and the recycling bins stayed upright due to a few strategic house bricks placed on the boxes.
