It's probably already suggested a lot but can't find the answer. Why are routes not extended with multiple maps. Once you reach the limit of a map at the last station you will be asked if you want to continue the route and a new map will be loaded. Why is this not possible? Many older routes could be extended. More DLC, more money. That kinda of thing
Because DTG have told us once a route is cooked, the track and signalling network cannot be revisited. Though that is a bit odd as you need to keep an uncooked master version in the event any patches or fixes are needed so… make of it what you will. Think there may be some issue with the console stores that they don’t like reselling existing DLC that has been change or updated, though that might be a bit spurious. The bottom line is that DTG see more money in putting out an entire new route DLC than building on what they already have. Most of the existing UK routes have tremendous potential for extension but just not happening. No doubt the new Goblin Line will be the same, an isolated 13 mile stretch instead of making it the springboard for a North London network.
But I'm not suggesting free extension like SEHS. I don't know the UK railways but I guess I'm starting to see a lot of routes that seem to be able to be connected or extended one way or the other. This would be "new" route add ons but you could drive the routes without having to go to the menu and have to load them. They would load once you reach the end station and wish to continue This means that the trains most of the time are already in the game so less developing needed = more money
The problem is not with that they don't have the uncooked version anymore. The signal table for the complete existing part is cleared once you try to change or as I experienced add something new to it. What that requires a creator to do is laying all of the tracks first (preferable also adjusting embankments and scenery elements which do have a relation to the tracks), and only once you got this done you place the signals/create a new signal table. It's the same in the public Editor and a huge problem to the creators. Would agree to that. But selling a route extension with a fair price tag and due to the previous statement rebuild the signal system from scratch would be a doable thing nonetheless. It would mean a lot of work, but it could pay off well for both sides.
might be difficult convincing players to buy dlc on dlc if you're trying to extend a line continuously and reselling it because it definitely won't be for free. Without 1, you couldn't have the other.
Or I understood the Cargo Line 2 video wrong but that sounded like a perfect example to introduce such a feature. You go fetch your goods on MML and drop them of in GWE.
apart from all the timetable and year the route was set plus forgotten or added services over the years there are so many inconsistencies. maybe they could make a scenario where if you finish at one route you instead of back to main menu get the "continue" button and it starts the scenario on the next map. but if you are delayed or have dynamic weather that will all change things. so I doubt it will happen
