Any suggestions for a steam loco for yard work? Interested primarily in US and German; but UK would work too I suppose ;-). Looking for early 1900's before diesel so Era II. Having trouble finding an appropriate loco.
Shunting in German Yards was normally done by a Tank loco - maybe one of these https://store.steampowered.com/app/325971/Train_Simulator_DR_BR_86_Loco_AddOn/ It also come in a route for not much more https://store.steampowered.com/app/...talbahn_Lauchringen__Immendingen_Route_AddOn/
A search for vintage railroad on YouTube turns up quite a bit. For example, the Steam Channel has this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL7H0ACS68SuVm227Ue4U4-0lGEqtBdaed
The former Bessemer and Lake Erie route on steam, which is now freeware on RWA as Pennsylvania Steam, has an 0-6-0 switcher that comes with the route. http://railworksamerica.com/index.p...:pennsylvania-steam&catid=20:route-collection
German railways had diesel shunters of various types from the early 1930s onwards the most common type being known as Koef I and Koef II. These were diesel mechanicals (some being chain drive) although hydraulics grew in popularity. The Koef II was in service until the early 1990s virtual railroads do one for TS in the DB form as BR 323. Other versions are available on Rail-sim.de as repaints including a pre war. There are, to my knowledge, no suitable Steam shunting engines for TS. The Steam shunting engines were often of The BR89 series. The BR86 was designed and built between the wars for branchline passenger and goods services which they continued to carry out into the 1980s in East Germany. The BR86 listed by DTG as being a DB engine is in fact a DR (East German not West). It even carries the Deutsche Reichsbahn plates on the cabsides; it is however an excellent model even if sold inaccurately. I am a VP and a former Chair and Editor of the German Railway Society.
Hi Hi Jeff, not sure if this would be of interest:- Currently on sale at JT for £11.99 (reduced from £19.99) Not only do you get the Loco but all of the animated assets as well. IMO it is an absolute stunner.
