Part of whats been holding me back recently is getting a convincing looking 3D hedge to line rural UK routes that aren't in stone wall areas - but I think I might be onto something using multiple overlapping transparency layers
Pretty happy with this now - I can start to build up some English countryside. The hedges now have volume with a 3ft width and 6ft height.
Many routes use endless bushes, but something you can do is mix these two. Allowing you to have fewer 3D (performance) and yet have density and sense of depth. Ultra old routes also used treetops and 3D tree fragments. Check these pics:
