So some may not know but earlier today at the Swanage Railway Diesel Gala 50026 'Indomitable' Has crashed earlier today at Corfe Castle Station. All that is publicly known at this time is; The sleepers just by the points Were very rotten and gave way just as 50026 was going over it to couple up to its coaches. Swanage Railway have stated: We are sorry to announce that all trains this evening have now been cancelled. An update regarding services for the final day of the gala tomorrow will be shared as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on our social media pages to receive the most up to date information. Once again we are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment caused by the disruption. However that is all for now. Once updates are received I will edit this post. Edit 1: The 50 is no longer on the webcam as of this morning and Swanage Railway have posted: We are running trains today! Following on from yesterday’s problems our staff and volunteers have worked hard through the night and we are pleased to able to confirm we will be running trains today. We will be running a two train service between Swanage, Harmans Cross, Corfe Castle and Norden, with trains passing at Harmans Cross. The service will begin at 09:35, with trains departing Swanage every 45 minutes after that. The “Return of the Jurassic Crompton” Railtour will run as scheduled, departing Swanage at 14:20. All locomotives will be in use except for the Class 50s and 69002. We thank you for your understanding and hope you have a great day if you’re visiting us today! Don’t forget to visit the Beer Festival at Corfe Castle Station which is open all day! A revised timetable with loco allocations will be available soon, and we will publish it when it is.
It came off due to a heat bulge in the rail it was a shame only because the beerex with the 24 was caped
Crash is maybe overstating it a bit. However will undoubtedly result in yet another heritage railway getting a withering from the RAIB!
Looking at the joints the following morning at Corfe the reason for the track bulge will have been the track expanding due to the heat and not being able to go anywhere due to the tight joints
