It’s been a whole week since we went big with the reveal of all the content in Train Sim World 6, courtesy of this year’s Dovetail Direct Summer 2025 Livestream event.

There are loads of things to be looking forward to, with new routes, new trains and some interesting new features to keep players on their toes. In this article, we’ll be guiding you through 6 key things to look out for come launch day on 30th September.

    1. Be Prepared for Random Events.

Sometimes life is too easy on the rails. Once you’ve completed the tutorials and are familiar with your favourite train, that high-speed run along the coast or frequent stopping city commuter service can be a bit too relaxing. What some players need is something a little... Unexpected.

In Train Sim World 6, you’ll be able to head to the Settings menu and set Random Events to ‘Enabled’. This will set live two different kinds of events to occur randomly during your journey.

    Signal Delays
    [IMG]

Sometimes, signals aren’t automated. They’re operated by real signallers in real signal boxes! As a result, not all signal changes are instant. With Random Events enabled, some signals may take longer to clear than expected. You may be held in platform for longer that you’d hoped or will need to keep an eye on what you expected a signal to display.

The order of trains may alter. You may get stuck behind a train that’s overtaken you, or vice versa, further disrupting the signalling order that you might have expected normally.

This is key for players who operate their trains with Safety Systems enabled. PZB and LZB in Germany, AWS and TPWS in the UK as well as ACSES and ATC system in the USA all react to the signal aspects and knock-on effects with signal delays may result in other unexpected aspects during your journey.
If you’re playing Riviera Line, remember to switch that DRA on if there’s a red at the end of the platform... just to remind you to check the signal aspect before you depart!

Signal Delays will be available in the new routes and will be applied to back catalogue routes for Train Sim World 6 players.

    Temporary Speed Restrictions
    [IMG]

The other Random Event is the enforcement of Temporary Speed Restrictions. In reality, these are put in place to guard against track work or infrastructure considerations and are often denoted by temporary signs placed by the trackside.

Signs will appear beside the track to give a visual indication of where any restrictions start and end.
The HUD will also react to these restrictions, giving you a clearer guide as to when you need to slow down to comply with the restrictions.

After reviewing the complexities of adding non-authentic assets to certain routes (i.e. modern-day assets on a historic route, or German signage appearing on a Dutch route, for example), we will just be implementing this for launch on TSW6 routes and will review opportunities to add to older content in the future.

    2. Expect the Unexpected with Train Faults
    [IMG]

Get ready to fight gremlins in Train Sim World 6! Ok, not literally. But with the Train Faults option toggled to ‘Enabled’ a selection of equipment failures will occur at random within trains that are included in Train Sim World 6.

The types of faults that can occur include:
    • Wiper failures
    • Lighting Failures
    • Tilting Failures (on trains with tilting systems)
    • Turbo failures (on trains with turbo systems)
When a failure occurs, a pop-up will appear on screen that explains the fault and gives guidance on how you can overcome it. This may require you to vacate the seat and go looking for a breaker or fuse to reset, adding a significant delay to your service or your passengers!

Once enabled any one of the relevant faults for your train could occur AT ANY TIME, or even... not at all! As a result, no two journeys might ever end up the same.

    3. Listen Up! Announcements are here in Train Sim World
    [IMG]

We heard you like Announcements, so in July, we announced when we'd be announcing. Then, as part of our big announcement we decided to Announce: Announcements!

Yes, you heard right! Full implementation of on-board passenger and platform announcements are finally here in Train Sim World 6, adding a significant piece to the big immersion puzzle. You can now enjoy an audible feast of varied service patterns and station stops from beyond the cab, whether checking tickets with the public in coaches using Conductor Mode or roaming about the platforms hunting down Route Task Collectibles.

But how do these work? We’ve got a handy video from a busy morning at Exeter on the Riviera Line that depicts how Announcements add that extra layer of immersion during timetabled services.

Train Sim World 6: An Exeter Morning

Generic announcements have been a feature in previous Train Sim World routes. In TSW6, a significant amount of work has gone into converting the dedicated PIS (Passenger Information System) data into an audible format. Up until now, this data has primarily served the display of dynamic information boards on platforms and within the stations themselves.

The result is a formulaic announcement for each and every train arriving in the brand new routes for Train Sim World 6. Busy stations like Exeter St Davids, Hoboken and Leipzig Hbf will have a cacophony of callouts detailing the arrival and departures of express trains, local trains and their final destinations for you to hear amongst the hubbub of railway passenger life.

But what about in cab? Those of you in the know might figure that drivers and engineers don't really experience the joy of announcements - after all, they have other things to be mindful of!

So we've been a bit sneaky. An optional, toggleable speaker inside the cab has been implemented in the Settings Menu, so that anyone wanting to hear announcements whilst they're at the helm can do so! If you'd prefer the pure operating experience, switch it off and concentrate on those signal delays and speed restrictions. Train Sim World 6 is all about dealing with the unexpected - so maybe some distractions in the cab are something you want!

Also implemented for TSW6 is additional Passenger Ambience. These are sound effects of chatter and bustling within the passenger compartments of trains and are based on train loadings. Busy trains with every seat full will feel busy and crowded with noise, whereas quiet trains won’t. Conductor Mode players will hear this most clearly as they walk through the train moving baggage and checking tickets.

Announcements and Passenger Ambience are available in Train Sim World 6 routes.

    4. Get the most out of Service Layers
    [IMG]

Whether you’re a long-time Train Sim World fan, with dozens of Add-ons in your collection, or a new player looking to add more trains and gameplay to your Train Sim World 6 experience, then layers are something you’ll want to make use of.

Service layers take trains from other Add-ons in your collection and places them within a set timetable, making gameplay sessions busier and offering more playable services for a specific route.
In Train Sim World 6, all additional service layers will initially be defaulted to ‘Off’ when players first start their game. A prompt will appear, giving players the option to head to the Settings Menu, where layers can be curated for the best playing experience.

There will be an option to turn all layers back to ‘On’ permanently, for players that wish to do so.

The Layer Selector feature that was first introduced in Train Sim World 5, remains a feature in Train Sim World 6. This allows players to alter the layers for a specific route in the train selection screen. You can also view unavailable layers, to determine what additional content you might need to purchase to unlock them.

This feature has been updated in Train Sim World 6 so that the number of layers enabled ‘saves’ between sessions. A counter will indicate how many layers are enabled from the maximum available for that timetable (including layers that the player may not own). ENABLE ALL and DISABLE ALL options are now also available.

All three routes in Train Sim World 6 will feature playable or AI layers from previous Train Sim World Add-ons. We will detail these further in each of the route-themed articles published in the coming weeks.

As a taster, these articles will include:
    • Add-ons required to see freight trains operate on Morristown Line
    • Add-ons supporting playable steam trains, freight and classic diesel traction for Riviera Line
    • A full suite of additional layers for Leipzig-Dresden from a host of German Add-ons
As a note, some services may not be available for players on 8th Generation console platforms. We will outline details of this in subsequent articles.

    5. New trains, new sounds, new liveries
    [IMG]

There’s a lot of new content in Train Sim World 6, but also some refinements and improvements to some familiar faces. We’ll dive deeper into the details of the trains and locomotives in the coming weeks...

... but in the meantime here’s something you might like to know about some of the trains included:
    • The DB BR 411 ICE-T comes in a new variant with a green stripe depicting DB’s “Das ist grün” campaign.
    • The NEW DB BR 294 can be used as both a shunting and freight locomotive.
    • The NEW GWR Class 802 has a full power diesel engine, with overhead line functionality included for use on electrified routes.
    • The GWR Class 150/2 has a full suite of authentic sound recordings that will also be applied to the TfW Class 150 for TSW6 players with Cardiff City Network.
    • The NEW CrossCountry Class 220 Voyager will layer in the post-launch WCML: Birmingham-Crewe route by All Aboard Studios.
    • The NEW NJ TRANSIT® Arrow III has no reverser! The power handle on the left simply turns clockwise for forwards, or counterclockwise for reverse, with a separate brake handle on the right.
    • The NEW NJ TRANSIT® ALP-45DP is dual powered, with a fully functioning diesel engine and pantograph for overhead wires.
    6. More new content and new countries!

    Well done, great job.
A piece (random eventi for old routes) has already been removed.

TSRs already walked back to new routes only. Very disappointing. Sounds like the rivet-counters got to them. If it's an option that can be toggled anyway, why not...give us the option?

The sounds are great. The 4th, 5th and 6th points are disappointing. I hoped new features, as updated passengers behavior or dynamic weather 2.0

Okay, it seems my prayers have been answered and you can now finally turn layers on or off permanently. :D

This is a blessing for the poorly optimized routes around Frankfurt (hopefully not the new TSW6 routes). However, I think that due to the abundance of AI and tracks, it will be just like Frankfurt. :(

Listened to the example of the new sounds and the station announcements were garbled and unable to hear them over the train sounds both outside and inside the train cars. Hope this is corrected on launch.

TBH, I am not surprised this was withdrawn! Knowing the complexity of temporary speed restrictions I am still somewhat sceptical about this feature (as I am for the red signals as well). We already know that at launch the German TSRs will not be protected by PZB, which will (hopefully) be implemented at a later stage. This indicates to me that this is still WIP and I am not excpecting this to work to such a standard as I would like it to do.

Hence, I am happy if they concentrate making the experience actually worth while and not investing their time to revisit other routes to implement this. I am assuming it must be quite a manual process to implement them anyway...

And another cool thing how the 150/2 dashboard looks like the 153 one and the vastly improved 150/2 audio

Let's hope the TSR's are done properly this time in accordance with the Rule Book/Group Standard (for the UK) and not just random boards put down in the wrong order or incorrect warning distances where this has been tried previously in scenarios on routes like Goblin and ECML. A lot of the real railway people will be watching this very closely. Same goes for Germany and the NJT Line, needs to be done strictly according to the correct operating procedure.

And have to pipe in on this one again DTG Alex , what news of some extra save game slots or is this a taboo subject?

Is the Class 150/2 braking sound within this video authentic? I must admit that it's the funniest sound that I've heard for a while.

I have already ordered the Xbox deluxe edition, but will only download the starter pack for Steam. I don’t think the game is worth paying twice for anymore, until l see some Sydney City Rail routes in the game.

Hopefully to be confirmed soon, but I assume the TSR’s, faults and what not will all apply to the ai services too?

But why was it withdrawn just a week after it was announced as a flagship feature?

Presumably it got good feedback during internal testing and from the beta team (unless they really didn't start beta testing until this week, but i just can't believe that's the case), or it would have been scrapped before the big reveal, right?

This wording tells me the forum fun police have been in their ear.

With the caveat of hoping they're always striving for authenticity, i'd like to go on record that i'd rather have the gameplay TSRs provide even if it comes with anachronistic signage occasionally!

Maybe they could make a "HUD-only" version to spare our eyes the momentary horrow lmao

I'm wondering if the manualising of signals might have the side effect of allowing services that until now have been uncompletable due to AI trains being hung up at signals to now be finished when the signal is "manually" changed.

Really enjoyed the announcements video, that's going to be a big improvement.

Looks like Exeter St Thomas is busier than Euston in terms of passengers in the game. Not how I remember it!

DTG Alex when can we expect a list of the DLC layers required for the three TSW6 routes? Or is this another one of those questions that’ll be ignored and not answered.

I can hardly hear the announcements. I hope they’re louder than that on release or they’ll be pointless.

    Couple of questions.

If toggle in settings random events, signal delays etc, will action points for a service increase for each medal etc.

With action points, particularly for faults, do you gain more or less action points based on how fast solve the issue or is this set?

Similarly, if have temporary speed restrictions, will you get more action points etc for this.

I wouldn’t worry about Action Points. You get way too many for the medal system to be even worthwhile. I wish they’d just remove the whole medal and action point system.

Totally agree - on board the train, great !! But at the stations - very difficult to decipher, I really hope that you can alter the sound balance (are they worried that the outside announcements will conflict with the onboard sounds when inside the train?) Really hoping that this will be better on release.

    Looking good so far.
Did notice on the Exeter morning video that’s the announcement get drowned out by the trains.
Also the 10 car 802 had its taillight on in the middle of the train. I hope this is corrected for launch as this is one of my bugbears.

I wouldn’t hold your breath, they don’t care about fixing bugs. They’ll just add another buggy feature to distract you from it.

I find it very difficult to understand why they make a video for us to listen to the announcements in which the nnouncements are not heard.

Will Xbox users still be looking at z-fighting cabs, and listening to "popping" audio?

That’s because train announcements were set to be heard in the cab, you have a more realistic experience by turning them off in the menu’s so you’ll hear the station announcements better.
Also IRL it’s not like you hear station announcements perfectly clear when a train passes is it? For demonstrative purposes though they should made the announcements clearer though.

I think DTG would’ve shouted from the high heavens if these fixes were present.

I’m not planning on buying the ROG Xbox Ally, but it will be interesting to see what TSW plays like on new Xbox hardware. If it improves the situation or makes it worse.

IRL whether the driver hears passenger announcements depends entirely on the unit. In an MU, especially an older one without any real soundproofing for the cab, he can't help but hear the tannoy. In a locomotive, never. That is, unless the cab itself is equipped with a speaker (some are)- for example, on older BR locomotives you can tell passenger from freight-only models by the presence or absence of yellow connectors to the side of the main hookup. This is the audio cable which patches the cab into the train sound system (also, I believe, the guard buzzer)

Not the answer you’d like to hear, I guess, but z-fighting might never be fully fixed. It’s an extremely complex problem that seems to occur only on Xbox and may be a limitation of the console if I’ve understood it correctly.

I’m fairly sure announcements are supposed to be audible. They are at all stations I’ve been to.
It may only be a setting (if one exists for station announcements) to turn the volume down. All other audio levels only go to 100%, so no way to boost anything above what’s been set by the devs.

They should give us a slider that give us the choice to increase or decrease this feature.

can we do it where its balance for the station platform, and the crowd ambient? i would prefer if the station announcement can be heard over the passenger ambient.

    Good Morning all,

Sorry for the ping DTG Alex DTG Harry, but will the taillight issue be passed on to the DEVS? Thank you

This is an old screenshot I took ages ago, but the middle taillights being on when two or more multiple units are coupled together is nothing new

What happens if you turn them off in that cab? Does it turn the tail light off in the rear train too?

How will temporary speed restrictions interact with safety systems? For example, on Leipzig-Dresden, will there be active PZB magnets on temporary speed restrictions?

As a PS5 Pro user, I'm especially worried that all these new features will slow down the performance of the consoles.

The advantage of these features is that they cost almost nothing no more than other train sounds in the game. Other features also have virtually no graphical impact. I reckon that was exactly the reason behind these choices. Things that were introduced back then, like volumetric clouds, did affect FPS performance somewhat.

I think that’s the right consideration as well, and the choice of route is actually quite good in terms of performance. The Riviera Line isn’t very demanding. I’m not sure about Leipzig, but I do know that a lot of optimization has been done for Dresden Leipzig, which Matt addressed in the roadmap stream.

Only feature I'm concerned about is train faults. Hoping this is not gonna resemble the dynamic weather patterns. And I'm not gonna get train faults in the first 5 mins of driving pretty much every train.

In this case is better have a sliders to select the amount of fault we're going to have

I also find the station announcements much too quiet.
In real life, you can hear these station announcements very clearly, even when a train is passing by on the other track.

As far as rolling stock for Dresden–Leipzig is concerned, I very much hope to see improvements. New freight wagons would also be something we could use again for this route.

When trying to turn the azumas taillights off, they remain on in the middle and it’s like you haven’t touched them. Normally they would just turn off like when the 350 had this issue but the azumas stay on.
