Are you using the public beta? This has much reduced OOMs. Are you using freeware? This has no warranty whatsoever and if incorrectly made can cause OOMs.
It has been proven that the core game without third party add-ons, Workshop Scenarios, enhancements works ok. But when the user makes changes to the default files it will at some point cause problems. But its good that you are blaming someone else for your errors - you would not like to admit responsibility
I think what people expect is the game to verify its content and throw errors accordingly. Right now, what happens, you eat stuff and you drop dead. Were you allergic, or did you eat poison? (What's the difference?) Fairly often code doesn't account for "edge cases" and if it appears to work, it gets approved. Missing texture is a good example where the mistake was caught, while the All Aboard road vehicles are one were it wasn't. But the junk output of the workshop extractor is / was beautiful, too. I personally find job interview questions cringe, but the salary is attractive, the demand is inflated high, so the barrier is low. Steve said they are trying to catch all these errors, crash reporting uploads logs automatically for the past few years. I guess they just have so many, they still have stuff to review. Plus the full screen crash is still not in production, so any sort of popup message automatically crashes (and even then, it's only visible from alt-tab as the game is still full screen and the message dialog isn't).
I have a good (ok ok, is great) laptop, run the latest BETA, and only do standard Steam stuff. No workshop or third party stuff. And I must say TS2024 runs great , fast loading and no crashes. Only had issuers alt-tabbing, but did not test that lately, so perhaps that also has been fixed by DTG. All in all I am One Happy Engineer
At this point in TS, whether you're on the beta version or not, the game doesn't really crash for without reason anymore. Therefore, something, a corrupt asset or train maybe, is causing the issue. As others have said if you just use content available on Steam the game should work fine, but of course when you've installed lots of third party content who knows what's actually happening. At a certain point you should consider restarting from scratch, installing only the things you need and nothing else to limit what can go wrong. Certain routes crash very frequently for me such as Im Koeblitzer Bergland and WCML North for no reason, so I plan to reinstall them or the European Loco and Asset Pack (which I believe to be the issue) at some point in the future.
It's a well known issue as reported by DTG themselves that this is often some kind of bug in the code and not really an OOM issue. They have been trying to find a fix for it with no luck. I just think it's kind of sad that we're well over a decade into TSC and this error still occurs, often when it's not actually OOM, which is why I made this post. If you think this quite short post was a "helicopter rant" then I'd hate to see what you think of posts that actually are quite literal rants. Did your reply to me make you feel better, though? You can get off your soapbox and take a seat in the back of the room now.
Did you consider the fact that most OOM errors are caused by Faulty 3rd Party Assets? If you don't have any of these installed then you need to raise a ticket with DTG. If you do have third party stuff including Workshop downloads then run LogMate and see if it tells you the problem. Most people post this problem on the Technical Reports forum where, with extract from LogMate you might get some help. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/technical-reports.37/
Lol… some of ya’ll are going through it because I posted this. Like, calm down. It’s not that serious.
The point we're trying to make is that it's pretty much impossible to fully prevent game crashes in TS, and that calling DTG pathetic for not coming up with a miracle patch for it is just a bit silly.
Never once did my words point towards calling DTG pathetic. If you or others took my words that way, that’s a personal problem but not a problem of mine. Anyway, I’m probably done with this thread at this point as I’m not interested in entertaining borderline condescending comments towards me.
The title of the thread is certainly calling something pathetic, and I hardly doubt you're insulting the crash screen. Even if you didn't mean to insult the developers, it still was an insult. If my WiFi connection was constantly failing and I said 'The fact that this is still happening is pathetic', it's British Telecom that's pathetic, not the waves that carry the WiFi. You post things on a public forums, you have to expect criticism. We have explained to you multiple times that the OOM errors cannot be fully prevented, and why it is that way.
You might have deleted your original comments but because I quoted you in my reply they are still available for people to see. I suggested posting your problems on the Technical Reports forum but you just spat your dummy out and removed the title and comments.
Wording was that the presence of the bug is pathetic, not the company. The thread could be moved to TR, it's not a big deal. I think in the end we all want TSC to thrive, just approaching it differently, depending on our experiences. Sometimes for ourselves, sometimes for the community. Although Alex has seen this thread and possibly noted it, causing threads to be canceled is reducing their weight and impact.
Look, maybe I worded it wrong, yes. I was saying the presence of the bug is indeed pathetic, not DTG as a company or its developers. It’s just an annoying bug and I posted this in a fit of frustration. Probably not the best time to post something, admittedly. But I got hammered by several who jumped down my throat and accused me of bashing DTG and calling them pathetic. That was never my intention, nor did I directly say that. It would seem my words were taken by some to mean something else and I got ripped a new one over it. And even when people tried to provide “evidence” that I was in fact bashing DTG, like screenshotting my original title of my thread, it still didn’t rise to the level of what I was being accused of because it didn’t prove anything. This almost seems like an “ahh hah, got ya!” type of response. Yes, I did remove my original comments, fully aware that any people who quoted them would still have them show up. That’s perfectly fine. I removed the original comments and post because this thread completely dissolved into a bash session on me and accusing me of calling the company pathetic which again, I never did or intended to do. I really just want to forget about this thread at this point and about the last thing I’m interested in is creating enemies on here, especially since I’m on here regularly trying to help out others, provide insight information, etc. So can we all just move on from this at this point? Its just dissolved into something completely useless and continuing to reply isn’t going to do anything.
Again if you look on the Technical Reports forum you will see other people reporting OOMs and some solutions have been found
