I often find myself, especially with heavy freight, driving cautiously so as not to be caught off guard by stop signals. As a result, I end up driving below the speed limits, and ultimately, I have a whole line of trains behind me, moving in a stop-and-go pattern depending on whether the signal lets them through or not. A bit more realism could be introduced by implementing active traffic regulation. So, if I'm operating too slow, I could initially receive a warning to speed up, and if the delay or the accumulation of trains behind me becomes too significant, I could be moved onto a siding to stop and wait for the delayed services to pass, or the regulation could instruct me to slow down significantly to allow the trains behind me to take the downhill track and overtake me. These are just a few suggestions, but ultimately, it would allow us to replay the same service, and depending on how we drive that day, we wouldn't have the same driving experience.
The dispatcher at the moment isn’t smart enough to be this dynamic but if you’re late for whatever reason trains coming from other lines will be given priority
