I would very much like one of the UK routes to be kept constantly up to date true to reality The way I imagine it is that once a year, if there are any significant changes to the prototype route, DTG would release paid DLC with the updated state of the route. The price of the DLC would depend on the number and size of the changes made. Updating the timetable and possibly making minor changes to the scenery, would cost us a few Euros (5-10€). Larger changes, such as replacing or adding new rolling stock, adding a new station or extending the route, would cost proportionately more. What is it all for? I know that many players find driving the same route boring, they want new routes in new places over and over again. But such a constantly updated route in TSW will give us the chance for many years to feel like a driver of a specific operator running at a specific depot. Route producers like to add various additional details to the scenery from themselves. The problem is that when you see roadworks on the same road crossing for three years, or railway workers for years working day and night on exactly the same spot of track.... it kills the immersion instead of fuelling it. I've been maintaining such a route in Train Simulator Classic for several years on my own. This is possible thanks to the built-in editor, through which I can freely modify the timetable (including weekend closures), scenery (e.g. track works), rolling stock. The effect is really cool! Although I've never been to England and I get all my information from the official SouthEastern website and various materials published by British railway enthusiasts. What do you think of such a perpetually updated route? Would you be willing to pay a few euros to always have an up-to-date and real-time version of the London-Brighton or Cathcart Circle routes? Oh, one more thing: For this to make sense, it should ideally be a complete line in some way (rather than, say, the middle section of the West Coast Main Line), preferably with access to a depot. My suggestions are: * London-Brighton * Brighton-Seafrord/Hastings/Ore * Cathcart Circle Lines * Medway Valley Line * Birmingham Cross-City Line
If I could choose one route to get constantly updated I would personally choose Southeastern Highspeed. It already has a lot of variety and is usually voted as one of the best UK routes. It has a detailed depot at Ashford, and it is also closest to where DTG work so it would probably be the easiest. I think it would be cool if it became like a flagship route for TSW The biggest problem with SEHS would be that it isn't a complete line. It would need to be extended to either Ramsgate (29 miles, would give us another depot) or Dover (21 miles, would get to see the cliffs of Dover as scenery), but DTG are unlikely to do another extension for it I would also like to see London - Brighton constantly updated, and East Coastway (if it were extended to Ashford)
The issue would be that it prevents them from working on other projects. Sometimes changes can happen frequently so expecting dtg to constantly keep the route up to date would not be practical. Also it can get expensive very quickly
No one's saying they have to work on it full time. It could easily be a background project. Despite your insistence otherwise, it is feasible, and can be done.
I like this idea. Some of the routes could use some updates, including new rolling stock, locomotives, modernization, or even backdating. For example, the Peninsula Corridor Route (since the licensing with Caltrans is expiring soon) could be remade with SP power and be backdated to the 1960s-early 70s. My preferred continuously updated routes would be Cajon Pass, Sand Patch, Horseshoe Curve, or Sherman Hill. We are desperately in need of some new US freight locomotives and rolling stock.
Agreed But To Be Fair, It would change a lot of things (developmentwise) at the office so I not sure if DTG would consider it feasible
