I have a quick question about inclusion of other DLC content in our plugins, specifically foliage. For those who don't know, I'm creating a custom route from scratch, and keeping content from other DLC to a minimum with an eye to releasing my plugin as freeware. I am using trees and foliage from the Training Center, as everyone should have that, and I can find stuff there that's reasonably analogous to what would be on my route in the real world. As I get back to placing trees and foliage, I'd like to make sure this is the proper way to go about this, that it should still cook and pak okay (eventually,) or if I need to place these assets in a new layer or something in order for that to happen (finding out at the end of the process would be a bit of a nightmare!) Is it even cool with DTG that I'm using trees and plants from the training center? DTG Harry , DTG Alex , or DTG Matt maybe one of you could let me know, if you spot this thread. Unrelated, if by chance DTG might be thinking of something along the lines of a rail vehicle and simugraph tutorial series, a lot of us would be very glad to see it! I know I'm making a headache for myself that I wouldn't have if I went the 3rd-party dev route, but I really do want my end product to be free for all. Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, I tried searching the forum but didn't have any luck finding anything..
I apologize if it's a dumb question. I know I can get the trees into my level and play-in-editor still works fine, but like anybody, there are things about the PC Editor that I understand less well than others. Also, I'm on the tail end of a nasty cold I've been battling all week, and still a bit muddleheaded.
Using content from other plugins (to where anyone using your route would need to own those DLC's) there really aren't any restrictions from us, unless it's branded items really - but even then as long as you're using it as-is and not modifying it, probably fine. The biggest thing that should constrain you from what you add as a dependency is realising that it makes the route less available for a bigger and bigger audience as you add more to it. For something someone intends to publish as third party through us, any dependencies become a headache to resolve later before it can proceed, just something to keep in mind. Matt.
Thanks for the reply Matt! That certainly puts my mind at rest. Hope you had a good weekend, as for me I focused on feeling well again, and laid in some groundwork for what will eventually be the somewhat iconic Mt. Pleasant Cemetery south of Davisville Station, on the left.
