Last night, I was playing TSW3 (a Penn-Trenton service, as I bought the US Super Bundle in the sale), when it started to misbehave with lengthy freezes (several seconds) and frame rates dropping to 1-2fps and then recovering to a normal (on my setup) 40fps. This was far worse than the 'normal' mini-freezes and frame rate drops so often discussed here, to the point where the game was unplayable. My first thought was "exit and reboot", so I exited the game (normally, though the exit prompt took a few seconds to appear) with no error messages, but then found my whole desktop was exhibiting similar symptoms. I'm familiar with Windows doing stuff 'off its own bat', but there were no updates or like events going on. So I looked in Task Manager, to find that TSW3 was still running as a process and consuming 100% of the disk. Even stranger, it was drive D (my HDD), while Windows and all program files (including Steam and TSW) are on drive C (SSD). This continued for about 15 minutes and then the disk activity stopped and the TSW3 process disappeared. If you've read this far, thanks for bearing with me! I'm not really expecting a solution to the 'problem', I strongly suspect I'll never see it again. I was just wondering if anyone could suggest what on earth might have been going on, because despite decades in IT and having worked with Windows since 3.1, I'm baffled?
No, Princess (or should I call you Your Highness ) paging is also on C. I should have added that Memory was also in the red on Task Manager, well over 95%, which shouldn't really be possible with VM enabled (after a reboot, it's currently sitting at ~60%, which is normal for my system). When I can find a free day, I really need to blat Windows and reinstall, as I haven't done this for a few years.
I've noticed the same ever since we had the updates last week. Up until then TSW3 ran great. Now the game keeps freezing every couple of minutes for a second. The game when running is hardly using any resources, as seen here..
