Recently I have came back from Scotland on a 4 day railway adventure. I first took the Caledonian from Euston to Glasgow Central. To then travel from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley which first I had breakfast at the Balmoral Hotel which honestly is the best breakfast I ever had. Then I visited Edinburgh zoo and for tea a fillet steak. Day 2 Departed Edinburgh up to Aberdeen then back to Glasgow stopping at Dundee for the V&A centre and Perth museum. Fun traveling on the HST sets. Day 3 from Glasgow up to Fort William then on the coach to Inverness passing Loch Ness and staying in Thurso. Day 4 Thurso to Inverness back to Edinburgh then over to Glasgow for the sleeper train back home. Overall it was a non stop adventure just traveling on Trains and looking out towards the coast and countryside. Trains I caught were Class43 Class 334 Class 158 Class 156 Class 170 Class 385
Must have been really cool. How did you find the Caledonian Sleeper ? Were you able to sleep ? Did you find it comfortable ?
The best part was for me has be traveling on the HST on the return trip home departing Inverness . Very comfortable seats and the scenery was excellent as there was snow.
In all honesty it is rather cramped. And fairly noisy even when my room was not near the loco. I did manage to get some sleep as the beds they use are very comfortable. I think the classic room is alright but I do think it's a deal breaker not having your own shower/toilet. I couldn't recommend a seat for a full journey but would if you had a night out once would be alright.
Glad you enjoyed visiting Scotland. It’s not just haggis, Irn Bru and kilts up here . I never mentioned bagpipes because you do hear them in Edinburgh non stop all day long. That And the constant sound of Tram Bells too. I bet you heard plenty of that during your visit to Edinburgh. What about the 1 o clock gun ??? Did you poop your pants when you heard it go BANG !!!! haha. Been a few times I’ve been sitting in princes st gardens and it goes off. Gives you a big fright. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself and had a nice time. I’ve yet to visit up the north of Scotland. I’d really love to go away camping and hiking up there at some point.
