Just bought the Peak Forest route on TSW3. Really nice route and locomotives. But there’s a big problem – there’s hardly any AI traffic. Feels like a bank holiday Monday, during the pandemic after a zombie apocalypse. I don’t understand why DTG would go to so much effort of building an awesome route, and then not populate it – feels like they gave up right at the end of development. Anyone from DTG on this forum able to have a word with the Timetable/scheduling guy? Really need to up their game significantly IMO.
There was a lot of discussion about it when the route was released. It has gone quiet but from what I recall there is a desire to address it, there was talk of possibly looking at a green diesel pack. I don't know why the 4F wasn't given some local passenger runs. It is too quiet as it is, I haven't driven it for some time but one of the stations doesn't even have a train stopping at it in one direction from what I recall. It is a gorgeous route though.
Well looking at the old timetable sites it wasn’t the busiest of lines but there are more than a few gaps. The Buxton to Millers Dale (DMU) shuttle was mentioned frequently during the run up to release but ignored by DTG, not even represented by inaccurate (at that point) steam traction. Fingers still crossed we get a BR green pack but… nothing on the Roadmap and all that.
We looked at representing it with steam but there's just no way to do it without a fairly extensive reversing movement due to the track and signal setup, and that felt nasty. That, or top-and-tailing with locos, which felt equally nasty. Matt.
As I think has been touched on, prior to the Class 104 introduction in 1958 it was worked by a tank loco and push pull set, but then building that might as well have been the DMU. Hopefully something will arrive eventually to represent it.
Yes a push pull set would have required a different loco, and a driving coach - quite a significant new piece of work, hence why it wasn't able to be included (if that kinda time was available i'd have built the DMU ). Matt.
And I would say if resources were available to build a push pull set a GWR Pannier and Autocoach would have more future proofing application (or a B set).
I could try making a scenario for you? All I know is that lots of things are still being worked out and I bought the route on pre order and am very happy with it. I listen to Heartbeat playlist on spotify and have a ball. I guess if you run a section of the route it may be possible to have a few trains pass you the opposite way. Matt would be able to comment. As for me I know very little........except when all else fails, build your own scenario/s..... I know it sounds bad but believe me I have Train Sim Classic and cannot look back. I tried yesterday and felt awful. Cannot use that anymore. TSW3 is just too good. I just drove on the Westr Cornwall Local and I think I passed zero trains. Although it was quite a popular one. It is quite scenic and received criticism at the time of release on sounds etc.... I again can't comment. I enjoyed it. All I know is TSW3 has me as a loyal customer and I am so grateful for the content however bad some people may say it is. I have few problems with it.
Thanks for the feedback folks, you sound an experienced and high ranking selection of the community. To paraphrase all the comments it seems that the routes have a deadline date at DTG for completion, with the Timetable/Service mode less of a priority versus other aspects of the release, and the community is pretty happy with this approach as can create custom scenarios anyway. While that is fair enough, I personally think the Service mode aspect of the game should be the main focus. This has so much potential; to be able to jump in and out of services at will, at any location and explore that area of the map. I think the game would feel way more immersive as a happening open world game versus a scripted scenario style, even if this means less overall polish to create more actions. I may be in a minority here, but please put add my vote into the virtual suggestion/vote box in this regard. And SD40Australia, if you have built any (or have suggestions for) busy custom scenarios, pls let me know. Cheers.
Another thing to consider is that there is no appropriate rolling stock whether it's a completely different stock or wrong livery. For example it would be really unrealistic to see southeastern in northern territory or gwe in Scottish territory. Jst because it's the same unit in a different livery, there's still enough modifications to make it a new loco. Dtg can't just create like 5 pieces of rolling stock for one route to make it busy since it's a massive amount of work.
It is totally unrealistic to see a class 40 with a rake of non-airconditioned mark two's without a brake vehicle in Cornwall in the 1990's.. The 4F wouldn't look out of place with a two or three mark 1's on a local service on the main part of the route, it would be better than nothing until some DLC was produced. The Millers Dale shuttle which is the biggest tranche of services missing would be harder to cover although a backdated class 101 wouldn't be unacceptable, even better modified to turn it into a class 111.
I wouldn’t say that. Just look at the backlash on the New York - Trenton timetable. I wonder what happened to the exciting 3rd party stuff for Peak Forest that Matt hinted at. I hoped for an official announcement on the roadmap but no dice.
I remember the Somerset and Dorset route in TSC. To be fair.... it had almost ZERO traffic. But.... I loved every minute of it. Pure steam! I might give TSC another run with this route but honestly it is past its use by date. TSW3 is very enjoyable. Yes things may not match your expectations, there are probably some real steam aficionados here while I am more a casual player. I am sure you can find some part that is very enjoyable.
Well I'll make a short one... let me know. I'll try to have 3-4 trains pass you and give you that busy-ness. I'll post the link here in the next hour....or should do at least
Here you go jackburn Have 4 trains here it is Part 1 to Crowley. I'll try to make more for you in Part 2. 8 trains??? Don't know how but I'll try. https://creatorsclub.dovetailgames.com/mods/97440 Matt I don't know what happened, I am missing my fireman LOL is he/she invisible? Also getting jerking around (visual graphics like I am not in stable position?) whether I am seated or not.
I am missing my fireman. Gone AWOL again..... Also jerking visually. I am guessing there has been a patch? Steam physics is good though. My previous goof....
If you do happen to go back to TSC for an S&D flavoured jaunt, I can highly recommend the complete S&D on steam workshop. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=438520773 Complete run from Bath to Bournemouth, monster of a route and lots of great scenarios for it on Workshop too. Matt.
I still dabble with the SIAM Bath Green Park 1961 traffic sim now and again. It's surprisingly difficult to get 100% score, particularly once all those double headers start coming in late from the Southern early afternoon. All need coal and water plus turning. More than once, the Jinty has gone off to Manchester because I had the shed in such a mess!
Thanks SD40 - really appreciate you making this. More action in 10 minutes (5 AI trains) on your service than 3 hours (3 AI trains) worth of Service Runs. You should have the job at DTG creating the Timetables
Fair point Matt, the clue was in the name all along - it's called Train Sim World (singular not plural), the singular being the train you are driving yourself. Very honest name, certainly caught me out but I guess I can't sue for defamation
I've created a couple of Millers Dale shuttles on CC, I've uploaded them. One with a 101 and the other with a 150/2 set in a different timeline where the line didn't close.
Oh no, I sincerely appreciate the effort DTG have put in to building the sim. What people don't understand is they would make it perfect if they could. But life aint like that. I am glad to help out. The scenario maker is quite easy to use. Right now I am testing Part 2, from Crowley to Bakewell. Had 3 trains banked up at Rowsley with the passenger train in front of the two behind it moving extremely slowly. No idea whats going on. I set them all to go to Ambergate. What we don't see is the huge amount of effort these guys at DTG like Matt put in to making it a truly amazing sim/game. And the huge amount of problems they must prioritize on a daily basis. I have built half finished routes in TSC and even done 3d modelling. The process is easy but there is a lot involved and Train Sim World is more advanced. These guys are total experts and they often get very little thanks for their outstanding work. They do a tremendous amount of fixes and have a great team in their studio.... Yes I think we show very little appreciation. Sometimes people have an attitude change and they look at things completely differently. Like one fella got a refund on Glossop and then purchased it again and found he liked it. A lot of folk on these forums gave much praise for Peak Forest route when it was released and it had few bugs. If any. This freight is just past Rowsley waiting for this slow passenger to clear the section, which may take a few hours if I wanted to wait... So the scenario builder has some limitations or I have made an error. Or as Matt said the route has some limitations. Will upload it shortly.
