Technically I’ve covered this idea before, but I’d like to go into more detail on how it could be properly implemented.

Basically the whole idea is to prevent ai trains from using certain liveries you don’t want them to, say it’s an experiential livery or a fictional livery.

The most simple way this could be done is to make a simple yes or no toggle on each livery when you create it. By default it can be set to no, but that part isn’t that big of a deal.

But it would be better to have a more advanced list to control it exactly, these can be the settings:

    • Frequently (pretty much the same amount as a regular livery)
    • Occasionally (pretty self explanatory, a few trains can use them, but not have half the line use the livery)
    • Rarely (this can be every few trains on the line, good for foreign power liveries)
    • Unique (only one train at a time will use the livery (If you are using it, then an ai can’t use it unless your train ends it’s service and goes out of the map) good for heritage units and other unique liveries)
    • Never (disabled entirely, only you can use the livery)

There can also be a toggle for what routes you want each livery to appear on if the locomotive appears on multiple routes. The 182 is a good example as it appears on pretty much every German route. If you create a livery that only runs on certain routes irl that are in the game, you can set it so the ai trains only run the liveries on those selected routes.

The whole idea is a little complicated, but it would be fantastic to have the feature as it will help with immersion and bring life to your liveries.

Another idea would be the ability to only have one livery appear for a certain consist. For example, if you are downloading the IC livery for the dostos, you can set it so all the IC liveries appear together for that consist only, that way they don’t appear randomly throughout the consist

This would help me alot. For example. I was driving a Class 387 and I selected Gatwick Express livery but my rear coaches were in my GwR livery. It doesn't look right it isn't annoying. We need the ability to pick which services run with what liveries.

Honestly it's not just custom liveries which need this (Although they very much need it, part of why I don't use custom ones at all is that they start infesting routes where they don't belong). It's getting ridiculous that I see more Union Pacific locos on SPG than I do CSX ones. It's very frustrating as there's no consistency.

As someone who has made many liveries, I can attest to just how much this is need in TSW. And as said above, it'd be nice if this also applied to official trains and liveries too as said above.

Whenever I make a fictional livery, I usually pick a locomotive that doesn’t infest the entire route with that livery. Like previously stated, it would be so much better to avoid that stress

Yeah the lack of this restricts the number of liveries I download. The IC2 repaints are great, for example, but I don't want to see a single white coach in the middle of a Dresden S-Bahn service. I tend to limit it to locos - almost any repoint of a DB 186 fits, because freight is an open market in Europe - and route-specific units like the 375.

For that reason I stopped subscribing to liveries because you don't have any control on how they are used. I like the OP idea very much

That’s exactly what I’m dealing with, I still downloaded it but it’s just a mess

i have made an suggestion earlier on, where instead of painting individual coaches and locos, make it like a MU, where you paint all different cars in one go.

this should be apparent for all pax locos, and maybe locos like the 182 should have single loco (freight) full passenger setup, where you paint the loco and all available wagons.
Or a setup where you paint either the wagons or the loco, and get the default skin for whats not paintet.

Also, with the DB BR 442 and whe class 375/377/387 the liverery should be the same on all thats coupled together

I think it’s also worth noting that livery consists can also have there rarity changed. You can also change the rarity of trains from the creators club you’ve downloaded that would override the original settings for you if you don’t like how the creator set it up.

    How do you do that?
Can you do it with your own liveries?
