Is there really enough of a difference between these 2 locomotives to make it worth spending $20 on the c40-8w?(They look dang near identical in appearance to each other).
The cab is analogue, no MFDs in sight. Apart from that, it uses old school DC traction motors, so it handles and performs more akin to an SD40-2 than an AC4400CW. It‘s also worth noting that both inside and out, the loco looks a lot more lived it. It‘s a workhorse that doesn’t have to look pretty and you can tell in-game. It‘s not so clinically clean like the AC4400CW. For me, it‘s worth every penny, but I think it really depends on whether you can appreciate these differences or whether it‘s still just a slightly different AC4400CW for you.
It's sounds like the inside totally different and so is how you operate it,but the only thing it's missing is some kind of external feature to distinguish itself from the ac4400cw,without it it just not special enough to pay $20 for.(as for it's bonus coal car it's also not that interesting). Now if it ever goes on sales then it might be slightly more tempting. Note: With clinchfield comning soon theres no shortage of coal hoppers in that route, plus it has 3 new locomotives.
Different position of ditch lights, narrower rear radiator, different rear panels, completely different trucks are the external distinguishing features.
