What do you think about the fact that there are only achievements for TSW5 content? Well, for me achievements are also a motivation to play the old stuff again. But why should I ever touch Main Spessart Bahn or Northern Trans Pennine again if there won't even be achievements for them anymore? I know that some people have absolutely no interest in achievements, that's ok, but for people who just can't have enough of them (if they working properly), there's a bit of a lack of motivation to go back to older lines and rolling stock. What do you think?
Trophies are side quest for me, I’ll go after some if I’m close to completing it or if it’s easy to complete but they aren’t important to me. Because you enjoy the routes and trains. I’ve completed trophy sets for routes and I still drive on them
I actually agree with their decision to remove achievements for old content. However, I expect that they would increase the number of achievements per route DLC to levels similar to TSW2 (7-10 achievements per route DLC), and should also add back achievements for loco DLCs. They said the latter won't happen, at least not initially. They haven't confirmed number of achievements per loco DLC would go up, but there's still plenty of time until we will see a TSW5 route DLC released.
I think it’s silly to be buying content only for achievements. If that is literally all you get out of it, why buy it?
I would like to see TSW4 dlc receive achievements/trophies. Routes and locos say released in the past 6 months. I also agree with you about going back to playing older content. There are post TSW2 content that I wouldn’t have touched unless the incentive was there for me to play them. The thrill in chasing Achievements/trophies adds to the fun. Just like any game I play on PlayStation. I’m always chasing those platinum trophies. I’m looking forward to seeing the trophy list for TSW5 :p
I love trophies...when they work as expected. DTG proved time and again they can't be trusted with achievements - in TSW2020 sometimes it took hours for them to pop, in TSW2&3 many times it was a dice roll really, TSW4 is admittedly much more reliable, but there are multiple trophies that either were bugged from the the release, or got broken with a patch and DTG just left them behind. So for me, the less trophies in this game the better (less things to fix later on), and I applaud their decision to dump legacy trophies and stick to route only ones. I agree... to a point. A well designed mastery challenge could fulfill this I think.
On the one Hand, I think it's bad because Achivements (as others have already described here) motivate me to visit an old Route again. On the other hand, I think it's Good that TSW5 doesn't have over 200 Achivements, half of which you'll never get anyway or you get immediately when you log in the First Time. An alternative could be generic Achivements. For example, drive a certain distance in Germany, Great Britain,USA or a type of Train (10,000km in a DMU).
In a perfect world, yes, definitely fun working towards a huge goal. In DTG's world absolutely not - imagine spending hundreds of hours getting to the 10k goal, and the achievement glitching out. Probably would need therapy after that.
It doesn't both me, personally. If I really wanted to trophy hunt, I've only got 5% of the TSW trophies, 10% of TSW 2, and 26% of TSW3, so I could go back to them. A good game will allow you to get trophies with normal gameplay, and not force you to have to grind, but I've got nearly 1,000 hours on TSW4 so far, and I own and play a lot of routes, and I've still only got 30% of the trophies, and that's because of the volume of them. I think a reset is probably due, and I look forward to seeing how they handle it.
Yes that’s a good idea. I’d happily settle for this as a replacement for the collectibles. Collectibles for me seems to be the most buggy. The Goblin line collectibles supposedly were fixed, but never were. Did this trophy 3x and it never popped for me.
Back before TSW4 launched I suggested on these forums that both auto-popping and repeating all the old trophies wasn't a fun way to play the game and wished they would leave all the old trophies behind and instead go back to having more trophies for new routes / locos. So personally I am very pleased with this change.
Yeah, I appreciate the change too. It should be the same every year. Out with the old, in with the new.
I like getting trophies. It's not that I'm a hardcore hunter who needs 100% everywhere. But it adds much fun for me to playing. I'm really happy that TSW5 does a new start. So it's bot hoping and fearing for profile import to work. TSW2-TSW3 I did start a new profile because of all the problems popping up (or not). So I had much to replay and still haven't reached my old TSW2 profile Level as we are now on TSW4. At change to TSW4 I gave the transfer a chance. Most trophies worked but for some I had to start another new profile as it didn't work to them with the existing one. So now for TSW5 it'll be a profile import without any fears or need to replay old things again, again and again. Feels a bit more free to do new things only.
I'd prefer generic core game achievements over route specific ones. Like "complete X services", "drive X kilometers", "arrive on time X times" - regardless of what route you play, it gets counted. When every route gets their own achivements, the game quickly gets overfilled with boring achievements.
There was bit in the stream where they were talking about those monthly mastery challenges where you win some stickers for the livery editor or something, so you get the impression they understand the value and importance of goals, targets, achievements and gamification even in a simulator, so it's baffling that their Trophy handling has always been such an utter mess. I think it's probably a good thing they're dropping the legacy trophies, although I agree with the above, that maybe they could have kept some in for fairly recent TSW4 content. I just hope that they do it properly, making them logical, achievable, work correctly, and label the groups for the TSW5 content in a way that will actually make them accessible, rather than the "Set 1" and "Group 01" to "Group 40" shambles we have at the moment. Yes, guys, UX extends all the way to the trophies - be clear and be consistent.
For me, achievements are important, giving me goals to aim for, reasons to drive a certain train, or a certain route. Same goes for Journey Mode. But I would prefer some smarter achievements, not what most of TSW2/3/4 have had to offer. Achievement for completing X training mission, or Y scenario are not really achievements. Also, unless the tasks are at stations, route task collection achievements can fob right off. If you've collected these on Cajon Pass, you know what I'm talking about: Hiking World Simulator! So, in conclusion: DTG, if you're listening, give us achievements that we could really be proud of. I've reached level 1000, but nothing popped. Instead, I get "Bob's your uncle!" for completing a 4 minute training mission. Get the idea? Thanks.
The problem with these achievements is that as soon as you import your profile from the previous game, the vast majority will auto-complete because their requirements will already have been met in your saved data....so having the same scenario again in TSW5 is pretty pointless. I remember importing my TSW3 profile into TSW4 and immediately receiving around 500g of the core game's 1000g as well as almost the same amount again for simply loading each route - with the worst case scenario being having to complete a single service or increase the route/train level by one for the achievement to trigger. Sure, you can choose to not import your old data but that just means all your stats (including driver level & miles driven) reset to zero, so that's not really a viable option either. I personally agree with better implementing mastery challenges by adding awards that involve higher levels of longevity to give a truer sense of achievement.
I really don't get why anyone thinks that achievements for things like reaching level 1000's or driving certain distances are particularly good either. What comes to mind is that TSC Gas Turbine achievement that requires you to put in a thousand miles or something crazy like that. Extremely grindy, and ironically not really a accomplishment, because you could just run it around a circuit unattended for 12 hours a day while you sleep and achieve it that way. Similarly number of services can be abused, you could just complete only the short five minute services and get it way quicker that way. Or AP points, where you could complete services on Bakerloo and get more points in on one 20 minute run than you would with eight hours of services on Clinchfield. Funnily enough the best ones in that regard probably are the collectable achievements. They aren't nessicarily a huge time sink if you liberally take advantage of the free roam functions. I've never really tried finding all of them myself, but I do imagine you'd actually need a rather keen eye to find all of them without a guide. Plus most of the achievements I believe require all of them for a particular route, so you can't really cheese the achievement. It's just unfortunate that said collectables are entirely divorced from the actual train driving portion of the game. Driving a train better really isn't gonna make you better at finding needles in haystacks, nor will finding collectables make you better at driving trains.
Every new version I start a new profile. This way there is a lot of motivation to visit older routes again.
Just bought tsw4 just wondering if i do the free starter pack to tsw5 can i do the achievements the older ones
The achievements have been leaked on Xbox, the core ones are all the same from TSW 4 which is very disappointing however you can see the new route DLC-specific ones which now have 5 achievements per route. Cajon Pass also has new achievements. https://www.xboxachievements.com/game/train-sim-world-5/achievements/
You can get the achievements for TSW 4 playing TSW 4 and play TSW 5 for the TSW 5 achievements. You can have both games installed at the same time, but the achievements you get playing one of them do not automatically get unlocked in the other game.
But the you different profiles when once imported from TSW4 to TSW5, oenbeter said, run the same profile twice as your progress in 4 will not be updated in 5 ongoing
Aha ok so if i install free starter pack my tsw4 is still installed i thought free starter pack your tsw4 would be replaced by tsw5
When I see a trophy for things like take your first photo in photo mode, or complete your first training module, I just never bother. I used to trophy hunt, but most times its doing things I don't tend to do nor enjoy, so gave up and just played the games. If I get them its like yeah cool whatever. But that's my opinion of how I play. I understand others enjoy achievements/trophies and thats fine too.
I'm not Matt, but I'm able to read the FAQ. Short: No trophies for previous routes in TSW 5. Long from FAQ : "We have listened to player feedback and understand that repeating the same old achievements you already unlocked in the previous game is not fun. For this reason, Train Sim World 5 will start with a clean slate, introducing a brand-new set of achievements that are only applicable to new content."
I used to use Achievements to gain Microsoft reward points, in order to pay for my Game Pass and some left over for gift cards.. However, the number of points you can get has reduced massively in the last year or so and, whereas you could get 50 points a day for an achievement, it’s now 5, though they do count towards the monthly achievements. The number of points for Game Pass has also gone up. It’s got to the point where I’m using Game Pass just to get achievement points to pay for next month's Game Pass so it’s a bit pointless really (no pun intended). Therefore after my current subscription runs out in the middle of October, I have no further use for achievements. From then, I shall just enjoy playing the games I own and any achievements will not matter
