Add-on Confusion (answered)

I've taken advantage of the PlayStation sale and purchased three new routes - Blackpool, Suffragette and Midland Mainline.

Suffragette appeared as "free" in the list of add-ons and so I downloaded it. For Blackpool I had to go into TSW5 on my PS5 where it was available as "owned".

Midland Mainline however just shows me a price to purchase even though I have already paid and have a receipt.

I searched Midland Mainline in the PS Store and there are three versions of this add-on. There is one with a TSW3 icon and is "free". The one in the middle has no specific version icon and is listed as "purchased" then the actual PS5 version which is the one on sale and that I bought, shows £14.99!

I have selected the middle one which appears to be downloading a PS5 version but with a TSW3 icon. The TSW5 version remains with a price against it. Am I missing out on anything by not being able to download the actual version with the TSW5 logo?

Simply put, if you purchase content that was originally released when an earlier version of TSW was current, you automatically are granted the license for the DLC for every version of TSW that supported it. The PS store is poor at indicating this, and to add to the mess you also get both PS4 and PS5 version licenses.

By and large, when using the store on console the easiest way to ensure you only download the version of DLC you want for TSW5, is to select the tile on the home screen, press Options then select manage game content. Anything here with a 5 icon on it is for TSW5 (though annoyingly TSW4 versions show up here too, go figure)

 

Sony made such a pig's ear of their content management systems. Like, it's good that it allows for stuff like installing the PS4 versions of games on PS5 to get better framerates, but it absolutely sucks for actually being sure you always download the correct version of a thing.
