I've been trying to add a multi light route indicator to the top of one of my existing signals and although I succeeded making it look OK, it's simply not working properly. It does not illuminate for the turnout and even seems to break the normal operation of the points for the junction so I had to remove it to get the junction working correctly again. I'm using signalling resources from the ECW route which work fine, until I try to add an indicator. Wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction because I'm clearly doing things the wrong way.
Always recommend to load a DTG map and inspect how they did it on their own route. Could you post a picture of your route table so we can see what you tried?
Thanks for the reply. I did find an identical signal on ECW heading East towards Lewes and tried to make my own elements and properties identical to that one but still it failed. If I could somehow find some step by step instructions on what needs to be done I might have a better chance of making it work. The signal in question has only one indicator for a right hand turnout so it is really the simplest case possible. One which has multiple possible aspects would likely be a real nightmare to set up. There is probably a way of linking the feather indicator to a particular route from that signal but I haven’t found out how to do that yet.
Ah that's just the configuration of the view - but can you click on "Edit Property" under Network Signal Component and then see the Routes (in the "Routing" category)? In the original ECW route, some of the routes on the signal should have something in the "Route Indicator" or "Custom" fields... That's what makes the indicator actually turn on.
For stuff like feathers you'll need to go into the route that it'll be going via and setting a custom field that says something like "F1" "F2" "F3" and so on. So if the track diverges to the right and you have a Feather 4 it'll have a custom field of F4 to allow it to display that signal. Stations are easier as you just need to enter numbers or letters for the Theatre to show up.
Thank you both so much, that's now working. Not sure if I've correctly used "F4" in two of the fields below when only the Custom Field requires this entry. I had to clear out my previous attempt completely because the signal wasn't correctly setting the junction. Starting again from scratch fixed it.
Yep that's how it should look =) Route Indicator doesn't need the F4, only the custom I believe. Experiment with it =)
Thanks, I'm afraid I spoke too soon. After reopening the editor and coming back to this, the junction is now working in reverse! The feather indicates correctly for the right hand turnout but the points stay to the left. When I change the route to stay on the main line the feather is not lit as expected, but the points then turn out to the right. I'm tearing my hair out trying to find why this might be happening. Is there some way of reversing point operation that I may have overlooked?
Probably check if you actually did enter F1, F2 etc. on the correct routes and you are working on the correct signal. You can highlight each route individually (there is a highlight setting in the route table for each individual route) and see if the feather number matches what you would expect for that route. You can also hover over the signal in the route map (9 key) in play in editor mode and see exactly which route the dispatcher gave you.
Setting the highlight box in the route table is correctly highlighting the correct path for each of the 2 possible cases. The route map in the editor shows the desired red path with the correct starting and destination points. The 9 key Route map for the turn out to the right for PO3 signal is showing "PO3 route 1 of 2 (Approach)....... The 9 key Route map for the main line ahead for PO3 signal is showing "PO3 route 0 of 2 (Approach)... Both seem correct but the blue path line is discontinuous across the points. For Straight ahead........ .. For the turn out to the right.... When I allow AI to drive the trains, in each case it stops with the train straddling the junction after realising it's going the wrong way.
Discovered this evening that adding the same feather to a signal for a crossover elsewhere on my main line has worked perfectly. There’s definitely something very wrong on my single line section although the points etc did work with no problems until I started adding the Feather4 to the signal. I’ll try redoing the troublesome junction as suggested.
That turned out to be good advice thanks. After remaking the junction the feather wasn't illuminating but of course the routing had been updated and all that was needed was the F4 to be once again added to the custom field for the diverging path. All now working properly. Another thank you for the help from all who replied. Hope my experience is of some use to others here.
