I do not know how many of you subscribe to the YouTube channel of this gentleman, but he is a beta tester and has an early version of the release and was given permission to review it on his channel. Here is the link to the video (9) TSW3 Early Preview of the upcoming patch release for New York Trenton (NYT) - YouTube
It looks like DTG has fixed a bunch of things including signal/safety systems, lights at stations and the mission catenary. He only goes as far as Newark Penn so hopefully he will do a part 2. He did say that he is not privy to release dates. Will the announcement by JD this morning that the April Road Map is being posted Tuesday, but no stream, it will be on there and we can see this release in April.

Important to mention that it is an early access version, so not all the things might come in the update. Also a disclaimer in the description of the video for those wondering.

Probably taken care by the preservation crew and it’ll be ready for TSW 4 or 5

Doubtful DTG will do a stream due to the anticipated timetable flack from players in the chat. As MYG92 says, it”ll probably be revisited in the far future at some point.

Is there a timetable? Just in the middle of a scenario and suspect I would see more traffic on a 60's Beeching closed line ;)

The last Roadmap contained a pretty long list of fixes for NYT, including the ones you mention.

While these are welcome, the most glaring issues, improvements to NYP and a more vibrant timetable, are not expected.

It will be interesting if this patch for NYT finds a release slot before the " huge " updates to SFJ and OSD.
Personally, I'd rather see the SFJ and OSD patches come first. It's been sooo long.

Sadly, AI locos still don’t have their pantograph raised, from what could be seen on video.

Sidenote - it is bizarre to have a roadmap without a stream. Especially when releases like NYT were so good according to DTG.

I noticed this when I watched it too. - Sure the lighting at the stations are important - but the pantos on the AI trains are an immersion breaker for me. I hope they really do fix this before the patch is released. I was quite dissapointed when I saw that.

I have a feeling this will be addressed in the upcoming patch. It's such a glaring ommission and it surely can't be that difficult to fix.

No need for a roadmap stream. Probably a waste of time on DTG's part as the viewership is so low these days. It's become just 2 talking heads reading what's on the roadmap anyhow so nothing new to be gleaned from watching.

I beg to differ. I would have agreed with you up until the last roadmap. But I thought the March Roadmap was a good listen. Apart from the rush of new releases, MP had some interesting " inside " analysis of the challenges in the development of the game.
If they can stay away from the PR mode and talk about the more technical issues, I'll start watching regularly again.

Watched a lot of this earlier, came away with one resounding observation. Why's the route hardly go any trains in it..... oh wait. Release date, that's why

honestly a fairly useless "patch" unless...

    1 - Timetable increase/update.
    2 - A.I. not acting like diesels.

Due to Easter holidays more than anything else. Matt is out next week, I'm out a little bit of the week later, so by the time we could both do it, it'd nearly be the next one. It's certainly not something we'd not do, as the stream offers some really good additional context we can't provide in the written version.

There's some good stuff in this one, including an Inside Development section on the process whereby we select our routes.

Does this mean that we have to wait longer until the bugs on Niddertalbahn are fixed?

Niddertalbahn is TSG, DTG senior management annual leave will have little to no impact on any work on this route.

That said TSG are a small company and whilst I have every faith they will resolve the few issues on this route, realistically it will take some time but we know Maik and the team will deliver.

The problem with the security systems was already fixed one day after the release of TSG. However, there has not yet been an update, presumably because it must also first go through DTG.

I assume DTG would wait until any other issues are fixed by TSG before putting through QA and beta testing and finally rolling out.

We'll batch up the fixes for Nid and put them out in one go rather than tons of little updates - mostly because each update comes with a bunch of time and needs support from outside organisations like sony and microsoft etc. When I get back off vacation i'll catch up with TSG on their timeline :)

AI trains with down pantographs had two candidate fixes and remains yet broken still, unfortunately. It's back with the train set up team to try and understand why these trains are behaving differently. My gut feeling is one of those pesky checkboxes has been missed somewhere but at least I'd like to assure that it's being looked at and i'll try to get a fix out asap - I was disappointed it wasn't in this patch, BUT there is a ton of great improvements.

Re: timetable - that's a massive job to finish and won't be in a "soon" patch. Work IS progressing slowly on it in the background, but i'm not going to give an update at the moment as to when (or even if, to be blunt) I expect it to come out (because I have no idea, and it should be given the time it needs, not given a deadline).

The fact that the timetable is even being looked at it is a massive step forward, previously I think the community was lead to believe that it wasn't going to be revisited at all. That was certainly my belief.

I'd rather lead you to believe it isn't being looked at, than mislead that there's an imminent update coming. And when it comes to people making pre-order decisions and such, I would much rather err on the side of doom than fictional unicorns and rainbows - if you decide NOT to buy it and then later decide TO buy it, I feel good. If you decide to buy it based on something i've said that makes you think things might better than they are, I feel bad, simple as that. I will always err on that side.

As I said above, I don't know when or even IF the timetable will make it out, it's a complex endeavour that will get more and more difficult to progress with as more services are added and more things become challenged. Progress WAS being made but is currently stalled and back with engineering for something to be fixed - which immediately starts raising concern.

I want to be fair to the team and the work they're doing, but I need to be the coldest shower or realistic when it comes to talking to you all.

I am going to still maintain that you should NOT expect this to be released, and if that changes, I will let people know.

I DID want to at least note that we're not ignoring you though, there's a strong desire within the team to make this happen.

    Matt.

Off the top of my head....

    Lots of missing catenary replaced
Lots of signalling fixes and improvements that should remove bogus aspects and also speed the journey up
    Cab Signalling fixes and improvements
All of Penn and tunnels have been re-baked

The list is very long but I think that covers the essence of it.

That's sad that you buy something and then have to wait weeks or months to play it properly. Then I'll have to adapt my buying behavior to that.

It's another big one and there are some logistical problems that ideally would mean track being ripped up and put back down again - but track won't move that's like digging up the foundations of a house. Adjusting platform edges and such is certainly in the realms of doable, and something I want to try and find time to get looked at as well, same with the overlapping walls in some cases too.

Encouraging words from Matt P. I appreciate nothing he has said is guaranteed, but there is some hope at least. I love US passenger routes and was really looking forward to NY Trenton. I was beyond disappointed when I saw what was on offer from Day 1. US passenger content does deserve more love and it does feel like a 3rd rate citizen behind German and UK stuff.

It is good news that at least the insufficient timetable has been noted and MAY be improved and that there is the desire in the team to do so, whether it happens or not.

Matt, there is a 8k T_GrassCut_01_N texture in NewYorkTrenton\Content\LandscapeMaterial\Textures that extracts to a nearly 189 MB .tga. I doubt that it should be that big and large in size for a grass normalmap texture.

I decided to have a crack at spending some of my store credit on this one since I had it and it was on sale, and you know how XBox sales are, I figured even if the update doesn't fix much of what's needed, it was worth at least experiencing it to provide feedback for anyone else who might be considering it.

    My experiences so far.....
My first experience of the route intro scenario was... amusing, if a little difficult. All the NPC passengers were invisible. This meant I was constantly bumping into them. At first I thought the hitbox for one of the pillars on the platform was just placed wrong, but no, the invisible obstacles were all over, and they were moving around independently. I have a video of this saved.

Signalling appears a bit broken. Most of my attempts at running services have so far not terminated at the expected end point, but rather when after 45-50 minutes of driving I find myself presented with a string of AI trains piled up in front of me that have all stopped because the first is stuck at a red light. This includes stock moves to Sunnyside yard, where at least the problems with the stuck AI trains manifest immediately, rather than happening right outside Penn on a run from Trenton. Normally I'd expect this from say, reloading a save, but here it's happening on single runs all the way through.

Speaking of Sunnyside yard, the tracks leading up to it have the now-standard radioactive glow in the tunnel, and right upon leaving the tunnel, a large, stationary post coming up out of the track passes right through the middle of the cab. That gave me a shock.

I've also encountered a few issues with services where the doors of the bi-level coaches don't all close properly, only it seems on the first couple in the consist, and I need to go and manually check the rest with the camera.

Also solid black passenger hair is visible moving around from the other side of buildings. Unnerving. Seems to be an issue with the glass of the waiting rooms on the platform at Trenton?

Here's hoping this upcoming patch deals with at least some of these issues because while a few are perhaps amusing, like the invisible passengers, others like the signals can be downright frustrating to deal with after spending so long on a run. Reminds me of Cajon pass and the game crashing at the end of a long run back before Save was re-enabled.

If the ai traffic is added to more reflect the real thing, as in London Commuter, then buying it will be a no brainer for me. That is the biggest deal breaker of the lot, so please DTG give the route some love.

Something that has bugged me quite a bit about the Trenton route in terms of scenery is, it doesn’t feel like you’re heading into/under a city skyline. I did some research into this and found this.

    upload_2023-4-2_22-42-5.jpeg

I’m sure this is the bridge as you leave Penn towards Newark and whilst what I am assuming is the grass area, is represented in game. The skyline on quite the photo/iconic section isn’t there at all.

I was just wondering if they could have faked the buildings with a silhouette or like Penninsula corridor with the San Francisco Skyline

I also had a look for the one World Trade Center, which on the LIRR route adds to the feeling of being in the New York area (whilst understandably of course outside the city at that point)

Though when I went to sunnyside yard I couldn’t see where it was on the Trenton Route.

edit: I will add in terms of scenery, whilst at Newark International Airport station (whilst I don’t know the station in real life) I was impressed to see the Airport style assets given to that particular station.

Interestingly One WTC was present in the NYC skyline on the original NEC NY route but was omitted for NYT.

Unsure why that change was made considering alot of other assets were reused.

The NY skyline definitely needs to be added to the route. It’s iconic and clearly visible from the other side of the Hudson River.

I'm just watching the video, and immediately, just as he starts to go down the tunnel, there still looks to be no consitency between route signals and in-cab signaling.
3:55 - Signal shows clear, yet he gets a approach medium
5:40 - Signal shows approach limited, yet in cab he gets restrict...

And he is still crawling for a mile to get to Penn Station...
Is it still broken, or am I reading those signals wrong?

I agree - it looks like conformity between cab signal and wayside signal has not been fixed. Something tells me that getting this to work correctly would require a major rework of the signal coding since this problem is exhibited all over the route. The predictive method they had set up for signals versus Cactusjuice’s method looks like it is lacking in that regard.
