So guys I’ve just found out I’m either going to be helping fitting new winglets into a Ryanair 737 OR Last minute helping maintain a TUI 787 Dreamliner that is due inbound tomorrow both of which are at Prestwick
WOW! Amazing! You get to do that for work experience? Or are you working as an aircraft engineer? Also I like how to TUI aircraft's registration still refers to the days when it was called Thomson!
That's great. That 737 is probably getting split scimitar installed. This is right up my alley but I work on the airbus family aircraft
There was a company to do with holidays called Thomas cook though, wasn't there? If not I must have finally gone completely!
Charter airline operations have a confusing history in the UK. If I remember rightly… TUI was rebranded from Thomson that used to be Britannia, which also merged with First Choice Airways that used to be Air 2000! Jetairfly (Belgium), Arkefly (Netherlands) and at least another I can’t remember all lost their identities and as like Thomson became TUI branded, now these aircraft can only be distinguished by their flag and aircraft registration number. Incidentally, Thomas Cook folded just before the pandemic. They were formed initially as JMC (remember them and their “interesting” livery) as the merger of Flying Colours and Caledonian Airways (remember those!) Caledonian was a great livery and they had Tristars!!! They became Thomas Cook and were fully rebranded in the mid 2000s(?) Thomas Cook also had European operations Thomas Cook Scandinavia, Balearics, Nordic(?) and Condor. all as per TUI the differences could only be seen in the flag and aircraft registration number. With exception of Condor whose aircraft wore the standard Thomas Cook livery but with ‘Condor’ titles. I think after Thomas Cook went into administration most of the brands ceased operation, but Condor was saved initially by the German government and trades independently. They now also wear an “interesting” livery! I did say it was complicated lol
Just putting it out there that we cannot forget the legend that was Monarch my favourite uk holiday/charter airline in my opinion it had the best livery as it blended in with its surroundings very well (especially Spain) and had the best aircraft 737s,757s,a320s,a321s and 3 A330s Think of it as a miniature Jet2
Indeed, Monarch were great, they also operated DC-10s and A300s amongst other types, the 737 in the photo must have been delivered not long before they went into administration. (isn’t there a Monarch DC-10 nose at the aviation viewing area at Manchester Airport?)
Amazing Story and you might be asked to maintain a United Airlines airplane in Scotland. Newark to Edinburgh/Glasgow
