The A1 line is a predominantly double-track branch line. The maximum speed on this route is 100 km/h.
In 2022, the A1 line ran between Eidelstedt via Burgwedel, Quickborn, Ulzburg Süd, Kaltenkirchen to Neumünster. This trip took about 1 1/2 hours.

Lint 54 (Br 622) vehicles are used on line A1. In mid-2015 they gradually came as a replacement for the VTE. But there were also 2-3 regular trips with a VT.2 (VTA) on the A1.

However, the A2 line runs between Norderstedt Mitte and Ulzburg Süd. During rush hour (HVZ), however, this runs every 20 minutes to Kaltenkirchen as a supplement to the A1

Mainly the VTA operates on the route.
