These groups of line all run through central Manchester and are served by Northern Trains. Put together, they have a total route mileage of 51 miles. Recently, services between Alderley Edge and Southport began to be operated by Class 769’s, with the other local services that traverse the majority of this route utilising diesel only stock. Proposed Rolling Stock Class 769 in Northern Trains livery Operates services between Alderley Edge and Southport. Allocated to Allerton Depot. Class 331 in Northern Trains livery Operate the majority of Northern services though Manchester Airport as well as services between Liverpool Lime St and Blackpool North (appearing as AI at Wigan NW) Class 150/1 in Northern Trains livery Operates services between Stalybridge and Southport in pairs, in addition to Blackburn to Kirby services and occasionally working an Alderley Edge to Southport diagram (single unit). Would also provide a wealth of AI services at Piccadilly, heading to places such as Chester, Sheffield, Rose Hill Marple and Buxton.
Excellent Idea and for the Class 769 what routes should it layer on to if one owns this route and any existing UK route? Class 769 is actually a Class 319 Thameslink EMU with a diesel engine while keeping the OHLE 25KV 50 HC and Third Rail 750V DC top contact shoe. 331 Diesel version is the Class 195. Newton Heath TMD is also used by Calder Valley Line Trains
769 & 150/1 are likely to be seen one day, however the new CAF’s I wouldn’t expect for a long, long time.
