All I Want For Christmas Is Bug Fixes

Dear Santa,

I've been a good boy this year, and I all want for Christmas is a whole bunch of bug fixes for my favorite video game, Train Sim World 4. I don't want new routes or new locomotives, and I especially don't want previews of future routes or locomotives. I want bug fixes for the core game, and I want bug fixes for the multitude of issues affecting existing routes/locomotives. I want multiple communications from the DTG team demonstrating their commitment to delivering more bug fixes to the players. Here are some of the specific bugs that I am awaiting fixes for:

1. The brand new DB BR 642 cannot be uncoupled. This is quite major considering this is a brand new release, but there has been no communication or acknowledgement from DTG about it. When a new DLC causes a crash or other critical issue, DTG usually has it patched within 24 hours. However, issues like this uncoupling bug are often left to fester, sometimes for weeks, months, or even years depending how DTG prioritizes it. 2. Multiple Glossop services have been broken since the launch of TSW4. This issue typifies why the player base is so frustrated with DTG. These services were working fine in TSW3 but were broken with the launch of TSW4. When issues like this come up, they should be acknowledged by DTG and added to the next roadmap immediately. Instead, DTG has not acknowledged this issue, and submitting a ticket only gets me the boilerplate "This has bug has been logged for further investigation" response. 3. The "Trunk Service" scenario for Ruhr-Sieg Nord has been broken since TSW2 by some accounts. I reported this bug under TSW3 and again with TSW4. I received the same boilerplate response both times, and the scenario still cannot be completed. 4. The Sand Patch Grade training module "Train Brakes: Theory" cannot be completed. This seems to be a new bug with TSW4. Other mentions of this bug: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsw4-spg-bug-train-brake-theory.76383/

5. There are at least two G6 Rhein-Ruhr Osten services that cannot be completed due to SPADs that occur when crossing green signals: "G6-Sh04 Prepare an intermodal consist" and "G6-Sh05 Collect and prepare Sggmrss". One forum poster states that these bugs have been present since the G6 launch, which was over two years ago on 12/2/2021! Stuff like this is why even some of TSW's biggest fans and DTG's most loyal customers feel bitter and tread upon. It's the reason why we create threads like "Can we pause new routes for a bit?" and "Enough is enough!". There's just no excuse for these bugs still being present, especially considering that the G6 DLC is sill being sold at full price, with no caveats about these issues. 6. Clinchfield still does not have banking comms. Where is it? I've read complaints about this dating back to April 2021. DTG Matt also stated in April 2021 that it was on the "list to fix". It was never fixed and subsequently de-prioritized. We are still waiting. Meanwhile, the DLC is still sold to unsuspecting buyers at full price with no caveat about this issue. 8. There are way too many rainy days in which the skies are cloudless or near cloudless. Although this sometimes happens in real life, it happens so frequently in TSW that it is either a major design flaw or a bug. 9. Night lighting varies so greatly between routes that we need to be given the option to adjust the nighttime world brightness to our preference. Certain routes such as Luzern-Sursee are so dark and have so little ambient lighting that there are long stretches of pitch blackness outside. Instead of tweaking individual routes, we should be given the ability to adjust nighttime brightness to our preference.

Santa, thank you for reading my letter of Christmas wishes. I hope that you and Mrs. Claus have a wonderful Christmas, and I would be grateful if some of these bug fixes could find their way under my Christmas tree!

 

I'd just like the station lights to come on when it's dark and for the snow all to be the same colour.

Easily pleased me, but those two core problems really put me off buying any more DLC, as I know it's CORE problem.

 

In Welsh, we call this phenomenon "bwrw haul" which literally means "raining sun". As you can imagine, Wales has several different types of rain!

 

I'm surprised to find out Welsh has a word for "sun." Did they learn about it from travellers' tales?

To be honest, Anglesey's weather isn't too different from the weather in Liverpool, Manchester or Blackpool (albeit possibly slightly warmer and wetter).

 

Perhaps DTG deserve coal for Christmas for all the issues plaguing tha game. It wouldn't suprise me if some of these issues still were not fixed.

I've seen so many similar threads asking for bug fixes or improvements to existing dlc so often. This game is really plagued with issues

I only ask that you bring back the dead zone to the PS5 sticks, as it has always been since TSW 1. This way, players will not have to press R3 ten times every time we want to switch between the internal and external view. The good folks at DTG forgot to include it in TSW 4 and haven't given us much attention since to fix it!

Unfortunately, that will not happen.
As for the clinchfield, Matt recently announced that he can't promise anything.
I wasn't surprised.
NEC: NY-Trenton also continues to sell despite serious bugs such as no passengers, wrong door selection by AI, etc.
If it was abandoned they should announce so.
It is hard to keep waiting for soldiers who will never return.

 

When getting in the Christmas spirit, folks will tend to put lights everywhere so they light up things and look all pretty and good.

working headlights on the Class 700/0, Dispolok 182, and Santa Fe F7 when they're being driven by AI!!

In TSW2, where the loco was released, these SPAD things do not happen. It came up with the route update at some point in TSW3. I can't do much about it other than deleting these services from the timetable. But even that could cause other problems then. So i leave them in there since AI can run these fine. The G6 is also on sale basically all the time.

 

Can you not talk to DTG about them or the original author fixing the route? Alternatively a different path to the end location or simply amend it to finish in the spur before the troublesome signal? Until this scenario is fixed, the G6 Journey cannot be completed, for those who are OCD about such things.

 

Those changes would need a massive timetable overhaul with all the pain that comes with it. I can't provide that at the moment. And DTG is not in charge to do it for me. I could remove the two services from the journey mode, but again, no idea what breaks then. Better to not touch it at all.

These services are also not working in TSW2. But there they´re screwed in a different way: After the reversing point on your way to couple up, you´re taken into the wrong path. Since the switches are handled by the signaler, there´s nothing you can do about it. See attached pics.

But anyway: Thanks for your refreshing honesty! At least we know now that waiting for a fix is pointless (I also catch the reason for that). And it seems that the G6 tail lights are now back working in TSW4. Which is good.

 

These were working. I played them myself a lot while creating it (i did all the game-play creation too). I have no idea why some times players get into these wrong tracks. But there are also manual junctions to set (that are not mentioned anywhere, you have to look before you move). If you forget to set one of these you may end up in the wrong track and then it's over, since this is unsolvable for the dispatcher.

 

Well, if there´re manual switches to be set related to these services, I fail to find them. There´re quite a few in the northern part of the yard, but there´s only ONE south of the coupling point. To which you never get close because the dispatcher keeps you in the automatic paths. And that brings you two tracks left besides the correct path. Maybe it got lost in translation to PS5.

It doesn´t matter anymore, meanwhile lots of water has passed under the bridges ...

 

Just throwing this in. If you activate the auto manual junction switches, it will break some services because the dispatcher may switch them routing you through occupied sidings (shortest way) instead of letting you run around. Better leave it off! (Note: RSN's "Trunk Service" is not affected, as a wrong path is given through an occupied siding at scenario end, hence the eternal red signal.)

DTG Matt I think this option should come with a warning upon enabling it.

 

Now that is interesting as I do have this activated, firmly believing the driver should not be acting as his own shunter.
Maybe I will try this scenario one more time with it switched off and report back (though the odds are increasing I may get distracted by Railroader later, finger now twitching over the "Buy" button).

 

Turn them off! They only work if the scenario has given enough "Go Vias" for the dispatcher to route you through correctly. I know some Dresden service failed due to this.

 

This wasn't even a option the days back. So how could i have tested that at all.

But rest assured I will test it later on and if successful maybe it will be as simple as rewriting the scenario instruction to add a "Make sure AI manual switching disabled," line.

On XBox the G6 is on sale basically, erm, hardly ever.
It sometimes pays to remember that not everyone on this forum is blessed with "basically all the time" sales.

 

Let's not forget that Santa has to deliver gifts all over the world, not just the UK, Germany and the US.

Maybe he should trade in his sleigh for a shiny, new EMU. Just one hand needed instead of trying to manhandle all those reindeer.

I have reported this shortly after the release of TSW 4. Here is hoping DTG will actually fix things.

If I could throw in another x-mas wish? Get rid of Skyhook Games. Their DLCs aren't even worthy of being called a DLC, they're basically scammers at this point. The BR 187 is easily the best detailed locomotive, yet the most buggy.

-terrible sounds (some sounds nonexistent)
-buggy LZB/PZB (If you are in PZB Mode M, after exiting LZB you will be in PZB Mode U.
-headlights cant be turned off once turned on
-drivers cam is too high up (seriously?)

I get tired of new releases when the older ones, some many years old at this point, still haven't been fixed. People keep telling me to file bug reports, I have over 50 bug reports open at this very moment and they usually get closed with "further investigation" within a few days, only for the bugs to fester in the game for years to come.

Shouldn't you have a bigger say in this? If new people buy the G6 and run into those two services, that's your name by the product and your rep being hit. If you release with them as a 3rd party, they should not break your product and leave it broken. One could even say that should be in a contract of some sort, otherwise, it could be a concerning precedent.

 

Some might see it this way. I'm not. I have nothing to say at least. I can have wishes, maybe. It's not my route and not my timetable. I just squeezed in my product into it. When they change the route i probably need to adapt by my own effort. But for me it does not pay off to get my hands dirty with that again. It's one of those decisions to make to get more forwards and not backwards with the progress of things. I don't like it, but i learned over the last decade that it is the only way.

 

Well, let's just see if the disabling AI manual junction setting makes the problem go away.

 

Regret to report that disabling the AI manual junction control did not prevent the G6 Sh05 SPAD termination. So it looks as if the only thing that would enable us to complete Journey Mode is to remove the scenario from the game.

If a change made by DTG broke it, then surely DTG should try to fix it then? I mean this is not directed against you, but breaking a previously working product (rendering certain parts even unplayable), then brushing it under the rug as "too time consuming to fix" is just a ridiculous excuse.

I understand that you are a single person with limited capacity, but then DTG devs should get some people on to fix it. Because issues and excuses like this are exactly why DTG has such bad reputation, and why we have so much complaining and whining here on the forums. This is a great game, but the quality control is the worst I have ever seen.
