In the Alton to Southampton service's final full year, the stations along the old Mid Hants Line sit tired, still in their southern region colours of the steam days. Some stations as you travel beyond Winchester are now presented in their new BR corporate condition, creating a varied experience over the length of the route. Following the closure of Southampton Terminus 6 years prior, all services now terminate at Southampton Central. Running from Alton to Southampton Central, this 30 mile route would encompass the 10 miles of the present day Watercress Line (Mid Hants Railway), the now closed 7 miles from Alresford to Winchester Junction and 13 miles of the South Western Mainline running from Winchester to Southampton. The service was run by the class 205 Hampshire units (thumpers). By this time, 1121 and 1122 had both been reduced to 2 cars to help them climb the challenging gradients 'over the alps' to Medstead and Four Marks and were the two units running the line, however other 3 car units did sometimes make an appearance. Early southern multiple units are something completely unrepresented in Train Sim World and what better way to introduce them than with this incredibly varied and dynamic route with steep gradients, beautiful countryside and mainline running between cities, all taking place in the final full year of an iconic route; partly preserved, partly closed and partly still on the national network!
