i know this is probaly a dumb Question but am i be able to buy the new german route that has been announced? even tho i have a bad pc becuse i read the roadmap and the new german route is for gen9 platforms only and pc(ofc) and i have low grahpic and i get like 34 fps (and 20 fps on the frankfurt hbf) on it but becuse my pc is bad (at least for tsw) i asked myself can i even buy the route or is it for good pcs only? (i know i think dumb )
Well quite a few of us have potato PC’s… Mine is an old I7 4700 with 24Gb system RAM and a GTX 1650 GPU. So far the only game to choke on it has been the Roadcraft demo that Focus put out a week or so ago, which needs a 6Gb graphics card to run. Having got Windows 11 to install and run after some extended faffing about, I’m toying with replacing the GPU with a RTX3050, which will give a bit more oomph without taxing the PSU and without having to pay £1200 for a new box. So far as TSW is concerned, most of the performance issues come from poor code optimisation like the stutters and sound distortion we are now getting in TSW5 so I don’t see the new route as being better or worse than any we already have in TSW5. If in doubt, wait for player feedback and the nuclear option is the two hour refund window on Steam.
Steam or any other PC platform for that matter can't see what type of PC you have when buying a games or add-on. So you cannot be blocked from buying something, due to the hardware in your PC. Therefore, it is the players' responsibility to ensure that their PC meets the minimum system requirements of the game before committing to a purchase.
(dtg-chris)oh i did not now that and i bought tsw5 on my potato pc becuse i wanted to test(for fun) how well it runs so i downloaded the free starter pack and put everything on low and it worked so yea then i ended up buying tsw5 on my pc becuse i really wanted to play tsw on a pc idk why tho
I don't expect that routes now will need significantly more ressources than before considering that the DLC will have to run on Gen 9 consoles still, which seem to be inferior to most PC setups. As far as I understood, consoles and specifically Gen 8's biggest issue is RAM which PCs (even potato ones) should not struggle with. Dropping Gen8 might also be simply a way of preventing any problems for users of that consoles, which you shouldn't worry about. Not saying, that it will run perfectly on your system, but the announcement on its own shouldn't PC users scare that much I think. Yes, you can buy the DLC, and if it won't run as expected or you experience severe crashes you can refund the DLC if playtime is not exceeded by 2 hours through the Steam/Epic Games support.
I found this in the Steam policy. Taking care of "since the DLC was purchased", it seems that Steam indeed onyl can track the game, but it actually tracks how long the game has been played after acquiring the DLC. "DLC purchased from the Steam store is refundable within fourteen days of purchase, and if the underlying title has been played for less than two hours since the DLC was purchased, so long as the DLC has not been consumed, modified or transferred."
