I'm climbing up sand patch bank on a 1.2% gradient and suddenly , without reducting from notch 8, the amps drop to zero and then slowly start climbing again, all the while I lose momentum and start losing speed rapidly Why does this happen? How to prevent it from muggering up my steep climb? Driving sd40- paired with ac4400 - it happens to the 66 on east Coastway sometimes I'm running and then it suddenly but briefly loses power
Good question, I'm also curious about this. I did not notice it on the 66 on ECW, but I have had it happen regularly in US freight loco's. Also noticed this in TSW1.
I’ve always been curious about this as well. Happens all the time to me on Sand Patch Grade with the GP38’s and SD40’s (never had it happen with the AC4400CW). It’s never caused me any issues, but just always wondered why it did this.
This used to happen on the Canadian route Oakville in TSW2020 with the locos on there. i dont remember if this ever got fixed but then again it could have.
Not a bug, Its a field divert. Power drops momentarily then rises again. Dont know at what speed it happens on US locos but on the 66 its about 35mph https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/what-is-field-divert.119164/
Ah thanks for that! It never seemed like a bug to me, just never understood what it was doing that for. I always thought it seemed like it was ‘switching gears’ and now that makes a lot of sense based on that info!
