Hello everyone, I suggest that the General Electric Genesis series (P40DC, P42DC, and the P32AC-DM) locomotives should be added to Train Sim World 4. Description: The General Electric Genesis is a series of 3,200hp, 4,000hp, and 4,250hp) four-axle passenger diesel locomotives produced from 1993 to 2001. The Genesis Locomotives were mainly intended for Amtrak. though other transit carriers such as Via Rail of Canada, Metro-North (MN), and New Jersey Transit (NJT or NJ Transit), have received and acquired units (including some from Amtrak). Exactly 321 of these engines were built: 44 P40DC's, 228 P42DC's, and 18 P32AC-DM's. History of the Genesis locomotives: In the early 1990s, Amtrak partnered with GE to design a revolutionary and modern passenger diesel locomotive intended to begin a whole new generation of motive power technology (thus, being dubbed "Genesis"; however, phrased in a "new beginning" context) for high-speed passenger rail service. Though, despite being the large corporation that GE has been for the past century and a half, the company unfortunately didn't have the reference material used to design a simple, basic, and "forward-looking" locomotive like Amtrak wanted, nor did they have the right design engineers to fully integrate the technology into the design. So, they turned to Krupp (a German firm who were responsible for the success of the ICE-1 body design), and succeeded (despite minor set-backs which delayed the debut of the new locomotive) in developing a unique, innovative, and now-iconic "monocoque" streamlined design for the newly-dubbed "Amtrak Diesel 103mph", or the AMD-103 (or P40DC; although originally designated as the Dash 8-40PB, Dash 8-40BWH, and so forth per GE's classification system), which was built specifically for Amtrak to replace their aging and costly EMD F40PH fleet. The P40DC instantly became one of the very first successful models of passenger diesel locomotives ever built by GE upon its introduction (excluding modified freight diesel locomotive models such as the U34CH or P32-8BWH); considering that they were never really specialists when it came to passenger motive power in the past. Mechanically, the model was once considered to be the passenger version of a B40-8W (Dash 8), because of it's 16-cylinder 7FDL engine, 752 series traction motors, and Dash 8-era microprocessor controls. The second model; the 12-cylinder, AC-traction, "dual-mode" P32AC-DM, was first introduced in 1995 as part of the "Genesis II" subline, thus making the AMD-103 or P40DC part of the newly-dubbed "Genesis I" main line. The P32AC-DM is a dual mode locomotive which means it can either operate via the on-board diesel prime mover or on electricity via a 3rd rail pickup at 750 volts direct current; the third-rail shoes are used on the over-running third-rail into Penn Station for Amtrak units and the under-running third-rail into Grand Central Terminal for Metro-North. The P32AC-DM locomotives are only used on routes north of New York City where diesel emissions are forbidden in the enclosed terminal stations of both Grand Central Terminal and Penn Station. History of the P42DC: From 1997 to 2001 the P42DC (Genesis III or Dash 9-42PB) -which is an improved version of the P40DC was first purchased by Amtrak and then by Via Rail of Canada has 4,250 horsepower and a top speed of 110mph but are usually limited to 79 miles per hour during maximum operations. The ones owned by Amtrak are used on long distance trains, the P42 locomotives built for Amtrak were used on corridor trains up until 2019. Via Rail uses their P42’s on corridor trains in Canada. Picture of an Amtrak P42DC Some other facts about the Genesis locomotives: Each locomotive is equipped with an ATC system and a speed control system. The over speed function makes a setting for how fast the locomotives can go. If the locomotive exceeds the set speed limit it will start beeping and if the engineer doesn’t respond for 30 seconds then the train will go into an emergency stop application. The Genesis locomotives are equipped with an alerter system that makes sure the engineer is at the helm. The alerter activates when the engineer fails to touch the controls for a certain amount of time. If the engineer fails to acknowledge the warning within a 30 second window. The emergency brakes will apply and bring the train to a stop. The Genesis locomotive pack should be add ons for 2 separate routes. The P40DC’s and P42DC’s should be add-ons for the Cajon Pass route and the P32AC-DM locomotives be add-ons for the Harlem Line route. The pack should include rolling stock such as the double decker superliner railcars, the single level viewliner baggage, sleeping, and dining cars, amfleet 1 and 2 cars, and finally single level metro north shoreliner coach cars and cab cars. Not really, they’re WAY too new and not enough locomotives yet for a proper timetable so no they wouldn’t have “better success”
I think this is a good indicator that the next US route after Antelope Valley will feature a Siemens Charger locomotive
