The line between Poulton-Le-Fylde and Fleetwood have been given the green light, with the two towns set to be linked by rail for the first time in about 50 years.
The line between Preston and Blackpool via Poulton has seen several upgrades in the last few years, including electrification for much of the route, and links to Preston, Manchester and beyond given a boost, with Grand Central trains gearing up to run direct intercity trains pulled by class 90s from Blackpool to London put into test before COVID killed these plans.

The reinstatement of the line to Fleetwood would bring a third westbound route out of Preston with the junction at Poulton reinstated.

The Fleetwood line alignment can still be seen on google maps, with the line currently "buffered" next to the A585 bypass (built on the previous alignment)

    ***OPINION***
Having looked at the area, the existing alignment could be carried on alongside the A585, single and "fly over" the Three Lights roundabout and then terminate at a single platform right next to the Affinity Outlet Centre which has a large car park (postcode FY7 6AE). The previous alignment (now the main road) would have left the station on the west side of the road, but this location is now built over
