I just found this: https://live.dovetailgames.com/live...10.630152876.1681277120-1273843488.1681277120 If average FPS is above 50, does it mean there is no stutter? Which routes have been tested and passed?
From what I have understood from the streams, autotest is an automatic drive of the whole timetable, sequentially by an AI It doesn't test as the player would drive, as in starting at say 16:03 in a particular spot and run the scenario, but only the whole timetable to see if all runs are completed and what the spec is at each time (ie FPS and so on) No, it doesn't mean anything to do with stutter which can be all sorts of issues which this system wouldn't encounter (and may not be measuring even if it did). Average FPS simply measures the load on the GPU in whatever circumstance is happening at the time, so issues not relating to the GPU wouldn't show up on that particular metric
FPS and stuttering are two completely different things. If the game ran at 60FPS for a length of time and then dropped to say 45FPS but remained that way for a period of time like through a busy station or a passing train you'd still get a fluid experience. Stuttering is the rapid fluctuation of FPS between high and low i.e. 60-45-60-45 etc. over and over again for however given length of time producing that stuttering effect as if your head is being shaken. No idea whether this auto tester is just looking for moments of lower FPS or whether it's looking for the stutter. Either way it doesn't seem to be a priority so take the game as it is.
Not necessarily. Stutter in this instance could be a pause in the recreation of the flow of the world or asset around you, but could easily be created in 4K @ 60fps The frame rate dumped out doesn't necessarily correlate to the frame rate being dumped in
My understanding of what Matt described as Auto Test on the streams was that it doesn’t do any simulated driving at all. It was just spawning at various locations and checking the frame rate. I‘m sure they do also have something that simulates the time table as well, but given the red light issues, I do wonder. Could be wrong though. It’s a long time since I watched any stream. Would certainly be interested to hear more about it and the benefits it provides.
Matt's said on several streams (mostly roadmaps) that the autotesting is a high speed way of checking the functioning of the route by running the entire timetable and tracking the stats from those runs. It takes about 48 hours to run every timetable on every route in the game That's the last roadmap stream and it has a section specifically on red lights and also autotesting - section starts at 1:03:15 and autotesting description 1:08:00
