Is there any way to make the in cab engine sound louder?

I think the volume is pretty accurate, judging by YT cab ride videos.

You've bought AP stuff because it's realistic, why would you want to change it then?

Sometimes there's key combinations to adjust certain volume levels. If the manual don't mention any, you'd have to edit the sound files or proxyxmls.

It might just be my laptop, problem I have is when looking forward the sound is almost silent sometimes, yes that's with windows open too, sometimes you hear accounts of drivers wearing ear defenders as it's so loud in cab :D

I think, on average, the driver feedback on 66s down the years points to more drivers complaining about cab noise than not. Many have claimed hearing loss, and a few have mentioned the 66s bringing on tinnitus. I'll need to look up whether the unions successfully lobbied for better cab soundproofing by the time AP produced their EP :)

AP have actually done a good job of capturing the vibration sounds in the cab. I have barely used the 66 in TSC recently though, so I ought to have a listen to the differences between the no.1 end and the no.2 end when in notches 7/8. Many of the complaints are about the cooler fans and notches 7/8 on real life 66s.

Nice vid, you can compare the in-cab engine volume to the AWS sounds.

Btw, I've heard that a lot of times that the engine sounds would get almost silent when looking forward, though I'm not having this issue, EFX enabled. Could that be related to sound drivers? Using the standard OpenAL64.dll (2 Megs) in the RailWorks folder (NOT those from the Install\OpenAL folder that will overwrite what's in the main folder upon clicking SetupAudio.bat - they are different in version and size (400K).)

That's definitely a lot louder than the AP pack, on first impressions, torfmeister :D

How does your installation fare compared to the vid, mate? Mine is a lot quieter, and I think I have EFX turned on. I can't get to my PC at the moment as I am at work, but I did do a little class 66 run before work this morning and it felt pretty tranquil by comparison.

I don't actually have the AP 66, I just compared the above video to a TS vid. :)

Maybe dropping a few lines on this topic to AP would be an idea?

Or lower the values in the CabOcclusion file... details on that are here:

Be aware that some engines use different engine or horn sound files for the in-cab sound, recorded seperately from inside the real cab - or edited with audio software. The CabOcclusion only applies to outside sounds.

In that case you would need to adjust volume levels in the cab's .proxyxml files.

It might be possible to use the external external sounds for the internal sound?

Yes. Reference the same engine .davs in your cab sound files (.bin & proxyxml).

But my knowlegde on sounds ends here. Worth experimenting though, checking different loco files and see how they achieve their effects. Pick a terrible one and a good one and compare the files.

Last night for an early birthday treat I got myself AP's 67, this sounds much better in cab, much more realistic, when I have time I'll watch a few vids on AP's 66 & compair to mine & have a play around with some settings.

Editing sound settings will require cache clearing to take effect. Editing stuff in Kuju\RailSimulatorCore will require a restart.

Don't bother with the tokenised "proxybin" files - they are not used by TS (might come with an update though). Editing the proxyxml will suffice.

I have to agree, the sounds are way too quiet. I find that a great many AP locos are. The class 40 was way too quiet, both inside, and out. The 66 is definitely too quiet inside the cab. They have a reputation of being quite noisy, but the AP version seems quite a relaxed, quiet drive.

If you compare the sound of the AWS clear sound for instance... it's very loud compared to the engine noise, where in the real thing it the engine noise is much louder in comparison.

Ok. Well yeah, an EMD engine simply has to be noisy :D
