No, it's a big interest of mine, but mainly BR blue and green loco hauled stock. There was a time when AP gave quite a lot of support to that, but recently most of their output has been modern MUs, which don't appeal to me.
Same here If I already have a DMU/EMU for a route which I don't drive much then getting an AP version won't make me drive it.
I liked the way the 'old' AP sound packs would apply improvements to the default stock, so you could just jump in and use existing scenarios with their benefits. Now you've got to create, modify or find scenarios, and I can't be bothered to do that, especially if it's not a unit that interests me much in the first place.
I actually kind of agree with Peter and IronB on this, I own everything pre the latest 142 and the only reason I got over half of what I have is not because I drive them or even need them for scenarios but because of Pokemonism, It actually took me playing a different game with an absolutely gargantuan library of free (and excellent quality) mod content to break my "gotta catch em all" syndrome. My name's Reef and I'm a recovering AP-aholic (though I am going to fall off the rail wagon again at some point I just know it).
Picked this up the other day and really really enjoying it brings back memories of travelling on them pre refurb years ago.
I've not actually driven it yet since downloading it! Been busy. I'll give it a good going over this weekend.
It does look quite good but WCML-North would be the only route - for me - to run it on as I don't own any of the North Side routes. The Glasgow Suburban looks ok but I have not treated myself.
I did have a look but apart from various MU workings around the suburbs I did not see if there was anything else to run. Looking at Dalmuir mid week there is not much Freight https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/se...1-11/0600-2000?stp=WVS&show=freight&order=wtt A GBRf northbound at 07.45, the return at 12.20 and a GBRf northbound at 14.35
Honestly you should get them both it’s a fantastic end to end drive and with the branches to milgavie, Balloch and Helensburgh the 320,324 and 318 for right in with it.
It is great but the sounds seem very quiet- are they like that in real life? Was wondering if it is just the AP319 repurposed as that is quiet too.
All AP stocks are mixed at this relatively low level. I guess it's a prerequisite to have subtle approach sounds as, quite frankly, pretty much all other rolling stock for TS no matter the editor have less good sounding trains especially at a distance! In the weather EP manual, they recommend to set the "Master volume" at the maximum and "Ambient volume" only halfway.
I’m Confused what has the weather EP manual got to do with a question about the 318 pack sounds. The ambient volume is not going to do anything about the 318 sounds the ambient volume controls the ambiance around the sim ie the sound of rain on the windscreen etc as that is controlled by the weather
It's not difficult to understand at all, by decreasing the non train sounds the train sounds then appear louder overall.
I always had the sim set like that anyway. Even on older stuff the train sounds were quite low compared to real life, especially outside, and next to the train. This is not exclusively an AP thing.
I have always considered AP sounds to be too quiet, especially wagons. If you've ever stood on a platform and experienced a freight train go past at 60 mph you'll know what I mean. I've emailed them about this, but it seems they make them deliberately quiet, so that customers don't complain about loco sounds being drowned out. This seems an odd rational to me. If wagons are drowning out the loco sounds IRL, then I want the same in the simulation. That said, TSC as a game seems to be quieter than other games or music playback on my PC. I have sound turned up to max. I'll try dropping ambient sounds to half way and see what happens.
Why not just turn up your volume so the wagons are a volume you are happy with? Are you saying other sounds are then too loud? If you can't turn your volume up any further on your speakers, it might be worth investing in something beefier.
There's some logic to it though. There's no way you can get the dynamic range required to accurately reproduce standing next to a moving train, then the quiet of being inside a modern passenger compartment for example. It's all a compromise. If you tried to set things to that they mimic real life, you'd forever be reaching for your volume control white playing as the outside volume would be truly deafening compared to the inside, especially when moving.
I see that AP use much higher LFRatio values in their cab occlusion blueprints than usual, which leads to a quieter (precise: more muffled) cab (cutting off high frequencies). Nothing to do with outside volume though. You could try to adjust the proxyxml files' <BaseVolume> parameters, but if they're already at 1 you'll have to use Audacity to boost the volume of each sound file. I was a bit disappointed after installing the AP Class 37, as I was used to the loud Kuju engine sounds (which I loved) in the cab. But you can adjust everything to your needs. But, as you can adjust the traction motor sounds and the clag factor in some AP locos, why not put a general volume keybind into the script, AP?
It seems to me this is a creative choice that is neither wrong or right then. People just have different expectations on how accurately volume should be simulated in a game. AP have obviously gone for a more authentic approach that is most suited to those with proper sound systems.
