Are bidstack advertisements supposed to be showing in TSW2 or TSW3? I haven't seen any in months (as far as I'm aware). I know there was a period back last October where this feature was paused and holding graphics were put in place but afaik that was fixed. Should I be seeing bidstack adverts, if so what routes or version of the game should I be checking for?
I see the Pringles ads but not Bidstack. There was a thread about it here but despite DTG Matt informing us that all issues were resolved in dev build I don't think it ever went live...
Don’t think it was ever fixed. Turned off forever on my install, they might as well remove them from the game.
I turned them on in Switzerland and never saw a single ad. Then when I visited the UK they miraculously appeared, so maybe it’s location based. No idea, but have since switched them off anyway.
This was back in October. DTG Matt following your reply here, are these now implemented or release scheduled please? https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/any-update-on-bidstack-adverts.60610/
Every time I see one of those all I can see is Steve Buscemi with the Pringles mascot's face, going "How do you do, fellow Pro Gamers?"
Yes, pretty sure it was the base routes for TSW2. But as I said, I never saw a single ad on them when I had it switched on while in Switzerland but when I traveled to the UK they appeared. Back home in Switzerland nothing. So now I just turned them off and forgot about them.
I am somehow unsure if they really do work, however occasionally there seem to be adds on the Bakerloo that I had not seen before, but due to the view restrictions on that line I was never able to really check them out. If they do really do happen, it is vey rare.
BidStack continues not to work, it's with them now and stuck currently. I'll go re-poke them and find out what they're doing. Matt.
On BRO with PC (Steam) the (local? Because German) Ads come up, are a little bit low-res but still ok, but haven't changed since a week or so
Bizarre...... I best wind my neck back in and go check. I don't recall turning bidstack off but if I did I equally don't recall seeing anything to say sorted. Thanks hyperlord Onto my next curiosity now , is bidstack considered a standard route feature in tsw3?
the Pringles adverts and machines are unrelated to the Bidstack system as they were part of a competition / promo. as for the other ad's it looks like the system is working in Germany just not anywhere else. I've had it turned off for while (prefer the fun ad's the devs create and the boards where just showing a large Bidstack logo) but I might turn it back on later and see if I notice anything.
I think that's related to the Pringles competition held some time ago. Don't think it's the actual bidstack ads
Yep some of those are ads, as others have said the pringles ones are static related to the recent promotional thing. We fixed it showing the bidstack logo banner a fair while ago but it was still only showing the placeholders we put in, as if no actual ad was coming down. ok so looks like the tech and implementation is indeed working - just need to find out why its only working in germany then i guess - though i'll take any other advancement on where you've seen them
Indeed this seems technically at least "strange", I have a Sophos XG [...] running and looked through the logs of the past 30 days searching for "bidstack" and "bitstack" - not one bit of data coming from that URL. I then checked my DNS server logs and searched there, too - no results. I'm not sure how the implementation detects the origin country, easiest way would be by (geo)IP, if it does, to download and show the local(ized) ads. There was definitly no traffic so the ads might come from a different URL/CDN Therefore I will check some UK routes (could you name one where this system is implemented?) INGAME and review if the ads are there or, if it's the German ones, other ones, no ones, placeholder ones (I've never seen the placeholder ones in TSW2, nor TSW3)...
Thanks for the update guys... since it's working in Germany it would seem that this is an issue with the game implementation and not the Bidstack platform (which as I understand it is a fairly trivial API). Though, the other possibility I can think of is that there literally are only ads being paid for in Germany? Hope this can be fixed, particularly for the London Underground route but also all of them tbh. It really does add a level of immersion to the game. EDIT: Apparently those screenshots are from a mod. So the confusion continues!
I think all the ads you posted here (apart from the Pringles ones) are not from TSW, but from an external mod. I have the mod as well, it is called "KWG Enhancements" and was uploaded by a community member on forums like rail-sim.de. I just checked and I had the same ads, but as soon as I removed the mod .pak file from my DLC folder, those ads were gone and it now shows standard TSW ones. So I don't think those ads are in correlation to bidstack Edit: I just looked it up, the mod can be found here: https://rail-sim.de/forum/filebase/entry/8949-kassel-würzburg-enhancements/ On the pictures, you see exactly the ads you posted in this thread.
That would be my guess as well. Ads tend to be region and user specific, just think fo YouTube ads. Now I assume user profile is not a concern here with in game ads, but I would assume it's still region specific. But to be honest, for a start, it would be great if other routes got Bidstack support as well. It does not make much sense that only the 3 base routes are getting them.
Well ... this ... is emberrassing on one hand but on the other hand an explanation for why there is no bitstack Network traffic to be seen/logged in my UTM's logs. I'll go hide under a rock now ^^
The game queries for server.bidstack.com recently and I whitelisted the domain, so let's wait and see. But I'm still hiding so expect no Screenshots ;-)
Apparently KFC delivers, I tried contacting my local branch and demanding they fulfil their promise, yet apparently 40 miles is too far for them. Time for a call to my local advertising standards agency me thinks.
