The manual firing part isnt ready. Means right now you have unlimited coal burning at a constant fire & steam generation. Obviously you can make influence by using blower, damper and an effective use of the reverser / regulator. The manual firing will bring alot of new challenges, when the player has control over the burning mass, so things start to get really dynamic. Same for watering, which does not do anything now. My guess is the coal and water levels are implemented and working. Thats why you can refill it. Just the actual "use" of them is blocked (set to unlimited).
wrong, the stock weight of a locomotive and tender when you spawn in is lower than the weight of a fully watered one by a few tonnes in game, you can see by checking the escape menu to check the weight of your current consist. Furthermore, diesels in game have fuel counters that count down and I would imagine deplete eventually if you were to play for months on end in one session... but for all intents and purposes it's a functional feature that doesn't have gameplay currently attached to it. You can rewater locos, or refuel diesels, but it doesn't impact allll that much
Well thats what i ment with my post above. The watertank and coal tender levels are actually working, but the current fireman doesnt seem to use coal & water. At least i never noticed my coal got less.
It might become more pertinent if we get smaller tender or tank locos with a longer run. Imagine for example something like the Fairford branch with a Pannier tank. Starting fully coaled and watered from Oxford you’d certainly need to water the loco at Fairford before returning to Oxford. On arrival back at Oxford after shunting the stock away, the little loco almost certain to need coal and water before going out again. But so far as Liverpool to Crewe is concerned, a short route worked by two large tender locos in the sim, almost never going to be faced with running low on coal or water. As an aside one interesting feature not implemented in TSW is lubrication. At least one loco I’ve come across in TSC, the New Zealand steamer, also requires you to manage the lube oil flow to the cylinders.
