I experienced something very inexplicable while playing TSW5 and it made me question my own sanity. I was doing doing a very late night ÖBB intermodal freight service on the Kinzigtalbahn, and there was a Deutsche Bahn Vectron pulling a consist entirely of Eaos wagons coming from the opposite side on the parallel tracks. I sometimes briefly beep the horn to oncoming trains to greet them even though they are AI(makes me feel a bit more in it), but this time I didn't. Just as I was nearing the end of the train, I heard two very distinct and clear car horns(didn't sound like a Vectron or any other German train horn, though it did resemble older British horns a bit). I didn't have the browser or any other software besides TSW and Steam open, and I am completely sure it came from my PC rather than the real life. As far as I know, cars in TSW don't honk, and even if they did it you wouldn't be able to hear them from inside the cab while moving.

I thought it could've been a LZB horn since it was switched on and parts of this route has LZB, but I was nowhere near a LZB section and there was nothing on the HUD or the screen to indicate a LZB alert.

What was that? Did I just experience a one in a million bug where an unused sound file in the game randomly played for some reason?

Yeah car do horns and if you put your camera in front of any vehicle on some routes, the vehicle is stuck because of you and starts honking. Sometimes they don’t care and just drive through the camera.

EDIT: when I was talking about the routes it’s the train ones, like on old routes, LIRR for example, vehicles goes throughout the camera.

I can not answer what you have experienced, however, just to mention it, cars in TSW do use their horns. Just stand in front of any moving car and it will stop in front of you and eventually honk at you…

    EDIT: MYG92 was faster;)

It might have been the train length counter which makes a car horn like noise in the cab of the 1116. It is quite easy to accidentally trigger it, as it is done by double pressing the throttle (on PC at least).

There are sirens as well, which always catch me off guard as I never expect to hear them when I'm at home. More than once has it led to my curtain twitching to see what could be going on!

The only non-self-train horns in the game are from DTG Harry .
For pinky cat sounds you have to contact DTG Matt

in that topic Matt, somebody asked about the 'tortured cat' sound on the br class 380 :)

I discovered this in NiddertalBahn at one of the Road Crossings. And it was at Night in the dark :o

As much as Niddertalbahn scenery is lovely. Going through the forest part in the dark is a bit sketchy lol. I always feel like Bigfoot is going to run across the tracks or something.

Aside of what others said, TSW uses also ambient sound generators that play a mix of sounds relevant to the scenery you are passing, bird chirping in a forest, hum of cars and people when passing a town, church bells at some places even. It's especially noticeable on very early routes where train sounds were very quiet.

Nope, the train was too loud to notice any of that, and I was in the first person camera in the cabin and wasn't blocking the path of any cars with the free camera.
