My wife and sons called me a geek for playing TSW4 at the weekend. If so I will wear the geek badge with pride* * For clarification after thinking about it I wouldn't actually wear an I love Trains badge.
I guess by definition we are. But it's nothing to be ashamed of, it's some thing we enjoy so why should we stop
Poor TrainGeek08 ! How could you dis the lord known as thy train of the geek???? Geeks are fine. We like trains. So what. Call us what you like. It shouldn't mean anything to you though. And ignore the a**holes that make fun of you. (Not talking about your kids and wife op. Dw) enjoy your life, enjoy your passions, enjoy your hobbies and stay positive.
Oops. Misread the post. Thought you ment you don't trust geeks and nerds. Well. There is actually alot of good people out there that aren't geeks/nerds but are still really good people. Everyone will meet someone like that at some point in their life. Just takes time. Don't judge people too harshly if their not bright. Just be kind. And try to have an open mind.
You can be a geek about anything, your wife & kids are geeks about things they like. Just means your enthusiastic about a thing. Guns get me enthused, so I'm a gun geek. I mean there's plenty of sport-ball geeks around even though I'm sure they think it's the coolest.
As long as you don't say how ugly the 460s are you'll be fine! To answer the question, I am not sure really 100% what the actual definition of a geek is however I see it as a term for someone who has an interest, which, therefore makes every single person on this planet a geek. To be here we all surely have interest in trains so I suppose the answer is yes. The problem with my definition is that I would also be a car geek, football geek, geography geek, farming geek and many other things a few of which I know for sure I can't say on here...
I've been called a lot worse. But there are names for different hobbys, such as if you have a love of Japanese Anime, you could be an Otaku or Weeb. Personally I take it more of an insult if I was called normal. Normal = boring in my opinion.
Don’t worry it’s 2023 now it’s ok to be called a geek, I mean almost everyone is “addicted” to something. I remember when I was younger it was more like an insult.
My wife, an avid PS player (on completely different beaches) is watching me driving virtual trains with this unbelieving air in her face and a shaking head: "What on earth is so exciting about this game that you spend hours staring at by-flying landscapes?" So, yes I guess we carry some loose bolts. Geek? I prefer train buff.
I do think you have to be at least a casual rail enthusiast to play a Train Simulator actually. If you're not interested in trains/ railways then a train sim at it's core is a bit like a racing game, except much slower, and you're confined to a single path with no possible deviation. It's not like a Flight Sim, where I can see the appeal even if you're not interested in aviation. Even if you're not at all interested in planes, the idea of exploring an open sky and travelling the world is going to have a much, much broader appeal than being in control of a relatively slow metal box, navigating a pre set path through suburban Birmingham. So in a way, yes. We are all massive geeks. I'd imagine the average Train Sim player knows more about the train they're driving than the the average Flight Sim player knows about the plane they're flying, or the average Forza player knows about the car they're driving.
My wife and I both thoroughly embrace the fact that we are nerds; that's pretty much how we met and bonded through our relationship. The way we see it, there are far worse people than childless millennial Disney adults that covet nerd culture!
