Are you on PS4 or PS5?

The reason I'm asking, is because the amount of blue screen crashes I encounter on PS4 is ridiculous. Is the PS5 having these blue screens too?

    CE-3487-0 error

Here's the main routes that I have had the blue screen crash on.

Some of these blue screens happen repeatedly at regular locations on routes. On some routes just randomly.

    SEHS
    ECML
    SOS
    BPO
    Dresden- Reisa
    Peak Forest

What's a blue screen crash? Sounds like your PS4 is broken. No crashes on PS5

I have a PS4 and I haven’t had these issues yet. Where do you experience crashes in SEHS?

PS5 - Never had it crash yet. I do have installed on PS4, but really don’t play it that much but it’s been fine. Just doesn’t look as nice.

Usually just before coming to the end of a run, when approaching the destination.

I have used other games on the PS4 without problems. It seems to just be TSW.

Strange. Because I don’t get any crash issues even on London Commuter or a longer route like ECML.

I’ve been on ps5 since Christmas. Rarely get crashes now, used to get them on ps4 but learned to avoid areas of routes and conditions that caused them

Yes I try to avoid the areas that are giving the blue screens. There's so many I'm running out of options.
Does seem to be a lot more crashes than usual.

I am on both. PS5 in my home and PS4 in my holiday home.

On both platforms, I experience crashes less frequently than I used to. The routes mentioned in the opening post generally work fine for me, even with lots of stuff (layers) installed.

Last time my PS5 (!) crashed was on Cajon Pass after driving for about an hour, right before arriving at San Bernardino...

Not wanting to state the obvious, but did you consider a thermal problem with your PS4? I had crashes going on when I was playing on PS4. But not with all the routes you've listed. Classic were the dense areas, something like -> leaving Dresden Hbf with BR101, lots of traffic, lots of assets, the vapor from the cooling tower near Dresden Mitte coming into sight ...... and BOOOOM.

You might be amazed on how much dust a PS4 accumulates over time. Maybe consider a cleanup and see if it improves the situation.

    Thanks Pipe

Yeah it seems to happen even when the PS4 has been on for one or two minutes with TSW. It doesn't happen on other games, even when playing for 45 mins.

Might be worth cleaning it, I've given it a basic clean and unclogged the air vents.

The screw heads are a type I don't have, and I had to slide the cover off to the side. My PS4 is not the same model ae the one in the video.

I'm on PS5, all my games are installed on the optional 2Tb SSD. So i got the original harddiskspace for TSW4 and alot of DLC.

It runs very good and a crash is very rare.
Mostly (only) when you have very long trains and switch cameraviews (to fast).
Specially on US routes with very long trains.

    Ok thanks vmeck

I have all the TSW games on an external 2TB SSD connected via USB. Maybe having TSW on external SSD could cause ths cause the crash?

I'm on PS5, and honestly, I haven't run into blue screens at all. Sounds like the PS4 version is having a rough time, though.

TSW is a terrible resources hog. Let's not get into the optimization discussion (or the lack thereof) but on my PS4 it was the only game which triggered frequently the fans at full speed, sounding like a 747-200 on take off. So, I don't think it is comparable to other games.

Yeah it makes the PS4 work hard.
My SSD is plugged into the front USB ware the second hand controller goes, is that ok?

In safe mode I rebuilt database, didn't help though.

The 8F railtour triggered a blue screen before I left Preston;)

Doesn't mind the Pacer It's ok going to Blackpool South from Ormskirk. And the class 20 railtour is ok so far. But can't get from Blackpool to Preston or vice versa with a loco hauled train without it blue screening. Recently had a blue screen with the 20s railtour.

For now I will leave TSW as it's too unstable on my PS4, maybe if I find a cheap used PS5 I might try that sometime...

I rarely have crashes on PS5... there was a known issue on MML on a few of the HST services that crashes sometimes, and I sometimes have it freeze when switching from the front camera to the back of the train on certain US freight routes.

    Generally no crashes though.

It may take quite a while before the 8th gen is gone, as the 9th gen has still not fully established itself as far as PlayStation players worldwide are concerned. That is certainly due to the fact that blockbusters like GTA6 are still in development and many AAA titles have cross-gen options. There are also many online-only players who shoot their way through Fortnite, which is also cross-gen. That is why half of all PS users still stay on the PS4. Since release of the PS5, the slow generation change was due to the pandemic and supply shortages, and today due to a lack of incentive to buy, as there is still too much cross-gen on offer and hardly any 9th gen highlights on the games market or still in development.

I can only recommend the PS5, as it loads very quickly, TSW shows its full graphic splendor and a smooth frame rate, and when running at full load there is no jet engine starting in the background.

BTW: I am also often busy with the Livery Designer. On the PS4 Pro it crashes constantly since the big 2023 addon manager update, so that you can only paint effectively on the PS5.

For me, the additional layers were the reason to change to PS5. London Commuter and Munich Augsburg are completely different with freight and other services.

Valid points, also the PS5 pro is not coming soon, so i'm hope that until the pro version of PS5 is not coming out soon, there are no reason to drop Gen8. Hope we have to wait another long time before dropping Gen8

Does the PS4 PRO have more RAM , faster processing? I'm guessing it must have. :D

    I just read same RAM , but 2.1Ghz on PS4 PRO , 1.6Ghz processing on standard PS4.

True, the PS4 Pro also has 1GB more RAM. But the additional RAM is mainly used for background applications and has little effect on game graphics.

The PS4 Pro was intended as a mid-gen upgrade from the end of 2016 and was developed specifically for the upcoming 4K TVs. The doubled overall performance supports graphics in 4K and quite a few games have also been given a Pro mode with improved graphics, although the standard PS4 is usually limited to 1080p.

The development of the PS5 Pro will certainly be completed, just like Nintendo's Switch 2. It is probably being held back on purpose, as the sales figures for the current devices would otherwise be drastically affected and enough new devices should be produced for the retail trade first.

I think they also need a good game that unleashes the potential of a mid-gen upgrade, otherwise the purchase is not worth it. That's why Sony is certainly looking forward to Rockstar Games and has already provided dev kits for other developers.

BTW: Microsoft's Xbox series consoles are not going well at the moment either. This could also be the reason why more and more former exclusive titles are finding their way onto the PlayStation, which would have been impossible in the past due to competitive thinking. :o

I got a refurbished PS4 PRO, it is slightly smoother. I was able to run the 8f tour on BPO in auto firing. It doesn't seem to like the 47 timetables in BPO. Overall there are less blue-screen crashes so far. The ECML still has the same problems. Slight upgrade in graphics, but my TV is only 1080.
