Might be the wrong place - but I recently bought the VP185, after installing it, on any route, I just get blue smoke and no controls work except the doors. Wipers, lights, etc do not work, even if I use the in-cab controls instead of the UI/keybinds. It looks like this:
I would install the pack again and then the Branding Pack. If that does not solve the problem then contact AP from their home page.
I think that power car needs its turbo / piston rings replacing!!! In all seriousness, have you altered the "clag factor" (exhaust smoke) setting??? It can be changed from 1 (minimal clag) to 10 (maximum clag)... With a setting like you've got there I think a senior member of station staff would be over to get the engine shut down...!!! Eric
No I haven't changed it, it just always looks like that when I spawn it. I've contacted AP support, now just waiting for a response.
This happened to me with the Class 150, reinstalling the addon helped, or a clean install of TSW. To be fair a lot of AP products need umpteen other AP products for that one to work, scenarios anyway.
This only needs the European asset pack, which everyone should have. I would go to the DLC manager in Steam, uncheck the European Asset Pack, and recheck it so it reloads and installs again. See if that fixes it. If not, re-install the AP pack. Actually, I'd just do both.. in that order.
Sorry, only just got time to do it, I noticed when reinstalling the pack that it spoke about some couldn't find file errors, gonna delete it and rerun it to try find out what it actually said it couldn't find. It looked like .geo something files?
Yes... that sounds about right, and this looks like an asset with missing geo files. Re-install it and see what happens.
Do all liveries have this issue, or just that IC Swallow liveried one? Check if the GeoPCDx file is there. Go to... [your drive letter]:\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\HST\ICS_AP ....and look if it's there or not. At least I think that would be the folder. There are quite a lot of folders once you install the AP packs. I have all three packs installed (plus a mass of third party reskins) and that HST folder is starting to look a mess now..... They should all have an associated GeoPcDx file for each version. They should all live in the HST folder in that file path I posted above. A typical folder would look like this... If the GeoPcDx files are missing, re-installing the AP pack should fix it. If not, then there was something missing in the original install of the sim, as the AP pack just uses the original HST as a base. Is that the buffered version in your screenshot, as that also need West Coast Mailine North installed, but I think it would still work.... just sans buffers so far as I know. Did you contact AP?
All my liveries for the AP VP185 HST have this issue, I have images of smoke just floating over stratford. In the ICS_AP Folder, there are folders for "Class43" and "Mk3", the Class43 folder has a file with the name of "class43.GeoPcDx", among over .bin and .dscv folders. I have contacted AP, but haven't recieved any response. Here is me killing the population of Stratford (I hope I get this fixed soon, its getting annoying):
What's in your "[your drive]:\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\HST\Default\Class43" folder? Does it look like this?
In addition to Pookeyhead's advice, if the correct files are there, try redownloading the installer from AP's website. I've had broken installers in the past, although I'm not sure why they occur.
Didn't work, I tried but ended up killing the population of Adderley park with smoke... The doors open with T, but nothing else works, setting controls in cab doesn't change anything, setting them on the UI also doesn't change anything. The horn works if I use it from in-cab, so even if the train is failed, I can still hear the horn.
Apologies for jumping in and possibly adding any more confusion, but I experienced this exact same issue a while back. I am trying to rack my brain cell as to what was the exact problem, but vaguely recall it might have had something to do with a conflict between the MJW 43 revamp pack and the ATS HST Improvement Patch. Not sure if you have at any point had either or both of these patches installed, but iirc that was causing my smokey HST. Again my apologies for possibly adding to the confusion, just thought it worth throwing in to the pot for another possible area to look at. Good luck in finding a solution
I have both of those installed with no such issue, so maybe that's since been resolved with updates etc. [edit] Just checked and apparently not, as there's a warning on the website. Despite this, it all seems to work here, but I would still go off your advice, as I'm probably just exceptionally lucky for some reason, and if he feels a need to place a warning, it's obviously a very common fault. Maybe I accidentally installed the ATS pack incorrectly LOL. I have no intention of messing with it though, as I'll probably break it.
I did plan to install the ATS HST, but I can't remember if I installed it, don't think so though because the only HST showing is the VP185 one, which it probably would show all of them if installed.
Don't forget the HST cab & lights enhancement pack I did ages ago (currently sits at about 2000+ downloads): https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/hst-cab-enhancement-pack-hd-1080p-ultrahd-4k-v4-0/ It's a freeware treat - hope you like it
Always a good starting point is to name the route and scenario that you are trying to run this on so that someone else can try it and see if they have any issues.
Is this the Class 43 Valenta with scenarios on the Riviera Line? if so the reason it won't move is as you have to move the reverse lever forward with the mouse until the AWS alarm sounds and you have to turn it off with the Q key. Only after you have done that will the keyboard controls work. (I hope)
This happens on any route that I load it on. This is the VP185 on any route, the AWS alarm never sounds. Thanks - ill install it hopefully it will work when I get the train working
OK, just a thought. Some of the Class 43 packs from AP require you to do that like the Class 43 Valenta pack. If you have a GEOPC file missing you usually get just the wheels appearing and nothing else. I have had this happen to me a few times but not for a while as I'm not as active as I use to be in TSC downloading and installing virtually everything I could get my hands on.
Codswallop !! you do not need to use the mouse at all, unless you choose to. Shift + W for Master Key, W for Reverser Forward, Q to cancel AWS. Works perfectly, as is the norm for pretty well all AP product key bindings.
I thought it was Ctrl+W? Let me quickly check the manual... No it is Shift+W, let me try that.. i'm not sure if I was pressing Shift or Ctrl +W... if this fixes it I will be so annoyed lol. edit: No it didn't fix it.
If that fails I would suggest to start from scratch with re-installing the whole Kuju HST and then the AP pack. Browse to "YOUR DRIVE "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\ Make a back up of your RailVehicles Folder elsewhere on your drive in case of issues with other Kuju Stock enhancements. Right click TSC in Steam and select Properties - DLC - and type European in the search box. Untick the European Loco & Asset Pack and wait for it to finish downloading. Browse to "YOUR DRIVE "\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RailWorks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulator\RailVehicles\Diesel\ in Win Explorer and delete the HST Folder Go back to Steam and re-tick the European Loco & Asset Pack, wait for it to finish downloading. Install the AP EP (remember to Right Click, Run as Administrator). You should now have a vanilla install of the original HST with just the AP add on. Check that all is well. Download and install the optional MJW 43 Revamp / Duncan's Cab - Light Patch etc. as required. Check your HST works ok and if so maybe paste back the copy RailVehicles folder you made, excluding the HST folder, so all other Kuju stock will be as was originally. Best of Luck
"An error occurred, unable to load this quick drive scenario", any route, any VP185 livery. Just realised you edited it to say make a backup... I probably should have done that anyway but rip.
Oh Bum!! I take it you have tried a fresh download from AP, Cleared Cache etc.? If so, I am afraid I am also at a loss. Short of the dreaded Verify File, Re-install options, I am out of ideas, I can't see why the above process would not work.
Yea, tried them both, thanks anyway :/ I'm getting a new PC soon, maybe it will work on that.. I hope...
That smoke is the clue. There's definitely missing geopcdx files. I've had this before, mainly with sketchy freeware stuff with files missing, or batch files that don't work. I just don't understand how it's happening with AP stuff, as there's no manual installing required, and the installer obviously works, as thousands of other people have used it. There's some kind of folder location issue here, it has to be. Personally, 'round about now, I'd be hosing the whole damned thing and starting again; Steam, TSC, everything. Just wipe it, and start again. Actually, I'd be restoring from my back up, but as you don't have one, in your position.... nuke it from orbit and start again.
Someone asked if you have read the thread, and you said yes. LOL Obviously not... not only that, you didn't even read the post's title
Try looking in Assets and seeing if an InstallMe.bat file is still there. AP installers don't delete the batch files used, so try double clicking it to run it to see if it works. A more nuclear option is uninstalling the EU Loco and Asset Pack, then deleting Kuju\RailSimulator in its entirety, and then deleting C43MTUEP, C43VALEP, C43VPEP (I have heard but not confirmed that each pack can cause issues with each other). Then you can reinstall the EU Asset Pack and the AP HST packs.
I am with you on this one, as I posted earlier I had the exact same issue and it had nothing to do with the AP pack, turned out it was the MJW & ATS enhancements fighting over where to place the .geo files to use. No fire without smoke as they say, or should that be the other way round? Throw TSC into the equation and BOOM ! LOL
Just be aware this option will affect every other Kuju Asset you might have enhanced, eg. Class 37,47,55,57,166, BR294, HST, V200, 5MT, BR 101, all the associated coaches wagons etc. Any reskins, tweaks would be lost. Would it not be better to just focus on the HST and nothing else?
There is an installme.bat file, but it doesn't help. I tried deleting the Kuju/RailSimulator folder and reinstalling it, It didn't help. I'm starting to think it might be an issue with my PC more than TSC.
I'm not convinced its a pc problem. I had a similar sounding issue a while back. Smoke pouring out of the AP 185 like your picture, on board screen broken and every decal was displayed on top of every other one. I tried to reinstall but it remained broken and even spread to other locos. I'm not sure what the root cause was but deleting everything and reinstalling from scratch fixed it. I then moved to a separate directory to avoid steam validation deleting things.
Neither am I. It's a file(s) missing, either because it actually is missing, or because it's in the wrong place. There's no way a PC fault can cause this.
If it's not going to be a long time, maybe, yes, but if you want my advice - fix it now, then make a back up of your Railworks folder, then when you get your new PC, all you have to do is install steam, then copy your railworks back up onto your new installation. Just literally copy over the new Railworks folder with your back up version, and it's as if nothing has every changed.
I was referring to Class 43 Valenta. I know that you don't have to do it on the AP 185. I have all of the AP Class 43 HSTs and combined with the JTs ones I have 90 items in my HST folder. The reason I mentioned Valenta to Boa although I knew that he said the AP 185 in his first post, was that sometimes people put the incorrect name to a loco that people are trying to fix for them. I have come across this a few times in the 13 years that I have had TSC.
Like I previously quoted Codswallop !! You are posting complete useless information. The OP doesn't care if you have 90 HSTs or 1 HST installed for 13 years, if you don't have any guidance on how to help fix the problem he is having then what is the point of posting useless information. "Mine Works Fine" is not exactly helpful AS far as I am aware there is no HST available to TSC that needs mouse input to fire up the cab. If you personally are having to default to mouse input to get a TSC Class 43 to work, your install is seriously corrupt and needs re-installing
You don't have to use the mouse on any of them. In fact.... here's the Valenta... with no HUD, being controlled by the keyboard. JT do a HST?
Once you have it sorted, make a copy of your Railworks folder. Every time you make a change, or add another DLC, test it all works, then update your back up. This way, if you ever have an issue like this again, you can uninstall train sim, delete your railworks folder remains, re-install train sim, and literally drag a copy of the Railworks folder back up into your "[your drive]:\Steam\steamapps\common" folder, and you will be back to how you were before the problem arose.
I would... but with no back up, go with the above first like Peter suggested. If that doesn't sort it, then yes.
