What are your opinions on the Arosa line? I saw loads of negative reviews and a lot of people strongly dislike it, but it seems really interesting and I'm on the edge of buying it? Is it worth buying?
It is quite possibly the worst route made for TSW. The distant scenery is bad, the sounds are terrible and the physics are terrible. Models are the only things that are fairly decent. I do really like RhB so it's really disappointing to me that Rivet didn't do the route justice at all.
It’s alright, haven’t played it in a while though. Hopefully all the critiques people made about it have been addressed in the upcoming Swiss/Italian route though
Is it something you'll be playing often and making it value for what you're paying or are you just going to play it once and ignore it. I personally don't find any of the dlc in tsw terrible. If you like street running sections, narrow gauge, going up and down steep grades with unique architecture, then maybe. The mountains look terrible, sounds are poor (there is a mod to remove the shopping cart sounds) and physics is wonky, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I'm more of a gameplay person who gets things I feel is unique. Only thing I don't like is you're only going like 30kmh most of the way so it gets tedious quick.
Why do you need more opinions on this route? Watch some gameplay and decide for yourself what you think. Getting more opinions is not helpful.
Despite my reservations and the known issues, the route is quite fun to drive. At certain times of the day (twilight) or in bleak or snowy weather conditions the scenery is not too bad looking. Rivet also did a fair job of recreating the unique bridges and tunnels/galleries on the line. If your Steam refund record is not teetering on a yellow card, why not buy it, try for 110 minutes and refund if not happy.
Should have been a stunning scenic route but it looks terrible. The mountains look nothing like the real thing, a real immersion killer for me.
Looks good in the snow, looks pretty bad without it. The loco still has bad physics that can cause it to lurch and given that it’s a Rivet release, that will probably never get fixed. Having said that, it can be fun. Driving up is quite dull, but driving down is a real challenge. The stations are modelled really nicely and can be easily recognised if you know the real route. If you are on PC, do what OldVern suggested and make use of the 2 hour refund policy. Just be aware that Steam don’t count the 2 hours per DLC, they count 2 hours of any TSW4 gameplay since you purchased the DLC. For example if you bought Arosa and then played another route for 2 hours before trying Arosa, steam will consider your refund window closed.
Beautiful route with mountains, deep gradients and curves, as someone says, with snow is worth it, i've done all the scenarios with aggregates pack and anniversary pack, i not drive often on this route, but when i do is still very nice to drive on it, actually i really want the Bernina line that should be coming on january
completely agree, it’s the reason I never picked it up like I planned when it was announced. A scenic route should be scenic
I think it's great fun and I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews and bought it anyway. It most definitely could use some 2024 updates though!!
A fun route but spoiled by the sounds of the rolling stock, disappointing timetable with very little variety and the sad physics of the main locomotive. The scenery is disappointing but can look nice in snow or cloud. I do enjoy it but feel at least one of the dlc packs they've done for it should of been included with the main route. I haven't bought any of the DLC's as I don't think Rivet deserve the money since they never update their routes apart from the really game breaking bugs.
If you want to drive a Swiss narrow gauge route, sorry, it's your only option. You are forced to buy it. Unless you switch to TSC.
Or you wait until next week for the bernina preview, which looks like it has addressed the scenery issues from arosa. if its better in other regards like rolling stock, physics etc youll have to wait for the stream, but if youre interested in getting Arosa, id definetly recommend waiting for the bernina release and get it instead, it will most likely be the better swiss RhB route.
