I remember hearing rumor awhile back of a potential Japanese or Chinese route for TSW3, possibly from a third-party developer. Was there ever an update on this? I'm really hoping it comes to fruition as Densha De Go 4 is still my go-to game for the Yamanote Line. Thanks in advance.

If someone is doing it, it is most likely going to be from Union Workshop - a third party, rather than DTG.

According to the latest roadmap, it sounds like it's still going to be a while away :( (Still I would rather developers take their time and do it properly!)

I'm guessing this might be Union Workshop Tokyo or Nagoya Chubu International Airport Tonkoname line the latter operates as an airport commuter real sort of like Brighton Main Line and Gatwick Airport. Another possibility is Union Workshop Haruka Kansai Airport to Kyoto combines BML Gatwick Airport with Japanese commuter run.

Union Workshop is developing a route for TSW. Since they have developed nothing but Japanese and Chinese routes for TSC their TSW routes is presumably also from one of those two countriies.

Its also gonna be awhile since Union Workshop is still working on a route for TSC as well. One that I think is based near Tokyo I believe.

I would like to see Yamanote Line in TSW3. Best in 2003-2004. Then you would see 205 series and E231-500 series. I know her well from Densha de GO! Final.

This is not a rumour. It was known for quite a while and confirmed by dtg in a past roadmap, not the one this month. It's Union Workshop. They only recently joined so they have to learn the entirety of unreal engine and simugraph. From what dtg did during the recent roadmap, union workshop has to create a new track gauge. Don't expect a route for at least several years. Just trains for example who joined a while ago still hasn't announced a dlc.

Well it could be just about anywhere or anything in Japan, from a Tokyp/Osaka/Nagoya commuter route, to the Otaru - Niseko rural line on Hokkaido seen in SL de Ikou 2.

Given that they are having to build track, doesnt this point more to a Japanese route rather than Chinese?

Good point and I'm wondering what part of China are they from if it's Beijing then they can do Tianjin Beijing high speed 100 mi 160 km shorter by 15 miles 25 km which is Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg Kassel Wilhelmshöhe Würzburg Hbf segment. Beijing Tianjin uses CRH380D CRH380A CRH2 & CRH3 trains which are actually familiar to anyone who has trained Sim classic with Chinese High Speed Route. If Hong Kong Guangzhou Pearl River Delta 142 km 88 mi Hong Kong Guangzhou HSR uses same trains as Beijing Tianjin

    No matter the road.
It will be a new country, that's what matters most!

Of course I would like a small 1-lane road like the road that goes from Morioka to Miyako for example with a pretty Kiha diesel!
It's about 70 km and it's very very beautiful.

As others have said, yes, there is an asian route in the works by Union Workshop. My guess would be japanese, because Matt hinted that it may be a cape gauge route. And I mean, it would make more sense, japanese routes being more popular and all.

But it must be still a long wait away. Thankfully Union Workshop does have some minimal experience with Unreal Engine, but they are still at the beginning stages, making their track assets. They are also a smaller team and in paralell are still working on their most recent TSC route, which should release sometimes this year.

As for what their route will be? Good question. Personally I would love a TSW remake of the Sakurai & Wakayama Lines route, as it's my favorite route from then in TSC - though with better end points, as in TSC the route kind of ends in the middle of the line, which is not fun. Or pretty much any commuter EMU route.
But to be realistic, they are probably starting off with a single track diesel line with a KiHa train. Makes more sense for a first route to be something low traffic, rural scenery and no need for catenary work.

Forest Rail but with slightly more modern Kiha’s would be good. Other routes I liked in BVE were Joetsu Forest - very long tunnels but nice mountain scenery and the line through the Seikan Tunnel. What I hope it isn’t is a Shinkansen or similar high speed route. We have enough of those already in TSW…

Well they could do Tadami Line again, maybe? They could use either the KiHa 40 like in TSC, or the new KiHa 120E if they go for the present time. Personally I would prefer the former though.

I just hope it's not the Chinese CRH3. At one point a scale model of one was shown behind Matt, he even mentioned it, of course he said it's not a leak of anything upcoming, but you may never know. Of course it might be a good starter project, considering on the outside it's a reskinned ICE3, but personally I wouldn't really be interested in it, so I hope that it will be something different.

How about the CRH380D CRH380A CRH2 CRH1 these are different from the CRH 3 which is simply a reskinned DB Baureihe 403 ICE3 Hauptstrecke München Augsburg Schnellfahrstrecke Hannover Würzburg Kassel Wilhelmshöhe Würzburg Hbf segment. Keep in mind the Chinese version should track towards 300km ICE3 KWG & HMA versions achievement. In the case of CRH380D Zefiro it's going to count for the Italian version ETR 1000 the following are built Milan to Turin line Mont d'Ambin LGV Lyon Turin or Schnellfahrstrecke Rosenheim Innsbruck Brennerbasis Tunnel Franzfeste.

Lol. In one of the past surveys, something like 3 years ago I put exactly Yamatoji-Wakayama--Sakurai as what line I'd like to see the most in TSW.

It's a great line, as many well known and loved rolling stock were used there, like the 103 series, 105 series, 201 series, 221 series and the 117 series. It's also a decent mix of commuter and rural feel.

I don't really know anything about Japanese or Chinese railways but anything in a new country is a good thing in my book

I agree and how about the Haruka Airport train from Kansai Airport to Kyoto? My mum is scheduled to take it on 26 March 2023 by paying $66 (€61.88) (₤54.21) = ¥8,698.14 due to $1 = ¥131.79 for the ticket. The other Big three currencies are Germany France Eurozone BRO LFN LGV HMA Riesa-Dresden RMV Niddertalbahn €1 = ¥140 and UK SEH ECW NTP Huddersfield Line TVL WCL BKL MML ₤1 =¥160.45. The way Kansai Airport to Kyoto Haruka service is played think of it as BML Gatwick Airport express with Japanese style runs
