This was mentioned on the Northern Lines thread, as a requirement for the electric version:

I have a query in light of the above comment about assets being placed in the game: does the pack not them automatically replace all default OHLE? The way I read it, you have to do it all manually in game?!

Have anyone used this, who can set me straight?

No, it doesn't seem to replace the original OHLE on routes that don't use it, and it comes with an installer... you need to do nothing manually. The above comment is referring to route creation in the world editor. As a "player" you need do nothing except install it.

If it's better than the default stuff in all the main routes, is there not a way to replace that with the ATS version?

I've no idea :) Like you, I only bought it to run routes that require it. I've thought there was THAT much wrong with the standard OHLE.

Yes. Go in to a route which has OHLE delete every stanchion and every piece of overhead wire then start from scratch in rebuilding the entire route with the stuff from the AHS pack - should only take a few months for something like the WCML Trent Valley

Of course you will have to clone the route if it came via Steam and any update would wipe out your modifications

Obviously I wasn’t thinking in terms of replacing it bit by bit: was thinking it would be a matter of item substitution: eg default catenary wire type 1, gets replaced by ATS version, etc...

But I don’t know how it all works, was just a thought :)

I doubt I'd recognise the difference between the DTG and ATS versions if I'm honest. Like I said, if it wasn't for it being a requirement for so much stuff I wanted, I'd have probably not bothered.
