Hi. Something I've noticed with TSW4 is the change in audio when going through tunnels or driving under a bridge. Noticed it more on the Tees valley line. Some routes seem to have this but some routes don't. Anyone else noticed this?
It’s called reverb and it’s realistic. I’m not sure how well implemented it is though, seems to be at varying levels on different platforms, and on a per train basis. The 158 for example is completely broken and will deafen you inside a tunnel.
Yes that's it reverb. I don't remember seeing this being added anywhere. Was it there on TSW3? It does add to the realism of the game.
It appeared briefly with the Azuma on ECML but I'm not hearing it much since the sound patch. It actually has appeared on and off ever since Sand Patch. Don't know the reason for the inconsistency, But it is an important immersion factor.
It is slightly there on the Azuma, more noticeable in tunnels but not as good as pre patch. Works great with the MML HST and cab doors open though! AVL has it good. Vorarlberg didn’t seem to get it at all. Not sure if it retro works on older routes.
And there you have it, no fanfare or special nod in the release vid for TSW4! (seems to me a symptom of having contempt for true audio immersion) Something I and many others have been asking for since the early days! Glad it is implemented But DTG Adam needs to tweak the ADSR particularly sustain and release since it ends far too abruptly; as for tunnel noise it's just right with the windows open trains are incredibly noisy things! But yes it is vehicle-specific, in the Azuma barely anything as it should be for a well-insulated cab the 47 is too quiet as opening and closing the cab windows has no or little effect, the 158 with the windows open is spot on. need to try more! But all said and done it is one hell of a welcome addition all we need now is for those bridge sounds to be used on bridge stone brick and steel parapets reduced in volume slightly as well as lineside buildings and walls not reduced slightly just a flatter sound with less reverb.
It’s mainly far too loud, especially on Antelope Valley. Go under any type of bridge and a loud roar happens that doesn’t even sound like a reflection of your train sound, just the same added sound playing far too loudly. Works okay for inside a tunnel but elsewhere it is just unrealistic. Maybe they can get the balance right soon.
Well considering that the cab is well insulated and the sounds are now at the correct levels I wouldn't expect the reverb to be loud, maybe in the passenger area but not in the cab. For me the audio levels are much more realistic now.
I actually preferred the train running sounds (not the AWS etc) before the patch to be honest. To have lost the tunnel reverb on the ECML is a massive shame. I know people say it’s still there, and I guess if you listen really hard with a prevailing wind you might pick it up occasionally (if you’re lucky), but it’s nothing like as good as it was pre-patch. It’s this lack of consistency with the way DTG do things that drives me up the wall. People ask for the sounds to be rebalanced because they were so out of whack they should never have been released as they were, but as part of that they turn up the running sounds to such an extent it drowns out tunnel reverb completely, and in an instant one of the cool things about the route is lost. Either the running sounds need turning back down and/or the reverb needs raising in the mix more. Once upon a time this could have easily been sorted with a mod. Sigh.
I think there is a real issue with tunnels with the latest update, where a fix has been brought in for one thing but in turn has broken others.. the external camera issues mentioned on other threads being the new issue that has been created all of a sudden. hope something changes and the tunnel issues can be rectified
I asked Matt yesterday on the charity live stream about the reverb. Apparently it is new but needs to check if it's by mistake or on purpose. It's very strange because you would think it would be newer routes but TVL has reverb on the route.
I’m on PS5. The only thing I can think of is I have ambient sounds boosted a bit in level, so I could try lowering that setting (if these sounds are included as ambient in game) but the level is so high that it just seems wrong to me. I’ll give it a go next time I play it.
Yeah sorry, I forgot that this is a console thread! Should work if you drop the in-game settings mine is at 100% with no issues except impossibly loud birdsong!
