Since it seems that loco and gameplay packs might be becoming a thing, I have decided to make a short compilation of locos, EMUs and DMUs that could be done for Austrian routes... Austria in general has highly standardized fleet - usually certain types of routes are typically served by almost the same consists across the country... so lets take it from branch lines to long distance... wont go super deep, more like comprehensive thread :)

    Branch lines / non-electrified routes

    5047 - vmax 120 kph

This little bastard doesnt look like much, but is surprisingly nimble and can get up to speed quite quickly... also, for rail enthusiasts, there is the NOIZ factor :D ... still serves a lot of smaller branch lines

    5022 - vmax 120 kph
    upload_2025-3-10_13-1-16.jpeg
Also used mostly for branch lines, but also non-electrified lines that dont need that much passenger capacity... from what I have heard, it is quite nimble (tho apparently the DB version in Maintalbahn isnt the best representation of this, some say)

2016 + CityShuttle carriages + CityShuttle cab car - vmax 140 kph (CityShuttle-s have designated speed 160 kph, but are mostly limited to 140 kph due to lack of stronger brakes)
    upload_2025-3-10_13-2-29.jpeg
Some call this a diesel brother of Taurus... nowadays it is mostly used for freight, but you can still see it hauling trains that need more capacity, on lines that have some non-electrified portions (the consist on the pic is most probably the one used for REX8 Wien Hbf via Marchegg to Bratislava hl.st.)... doesnt look like much, but is also surprisingly nimble for a diesel (once rode a train from Wiener Neustadt do Wien Hbf, a REX with CityShuttle carriages, and it blasted 140 kph up till Wien Liesing)

    S-Bahn / commuter / regional express services

    4024 - vmax 140 kph

We already got this in the game, but pls DTG, give us CityJet livery, so glorious :)

    4744/4746/4748 (Desiro ML) - vmax 160 kph
    upload_2025-3-10_13-5-45.jpeg
This modern speed devil can do 160 kph with barely breaking a sweat... even accelerating from usual snail S-Bahn speed to sth like 120 kph it pushes you into your seat... also the centerpiece of CJX (CityJet Xpress) services, which combine REX (usually within Vienna or so) and IC service pattern... it has a unique, kinda cruise control - like feature - when driver reaches desired speed, they put the combined lever to sth like zero/minimal (not idle) and it locks the current speed, whatever it is... this train/EMU is pretty much THE backbone of regional/commuter traffic/S-Bahn, having succeeded the classic vintage 4020/5040 EMUs (that are still in use on some electrified regional routes)... next in line is Siemens Mireo, which is almost identical in terms of performance, but has slightly better power usage and such (OBB has placed a HUGE order on Mireos, not sure when they are going to enter service)

1144 (vmax 160 kph) / 1016 / 1116 (vmax 230 kph) + Wiesel dostos + Wiesel dosto cab car (or modernized CityJet variants; vmax 140 kph)

For commuter/regional services that are on mainlines or lead through densely populated areas, usually dostos are used (like services to Wiener Neustadt, REX to Břeclav etc)... either 1144s or Taurus-es are used to push/pull these trains :) ... sometimes the dostos are classic Wiesels, sometimes you can see their modernized versions - in terms of power/traction/brakes they are mostly the same, just with better PIS, better and more comfy seating (also different seating configuration - a notable difference is also a padding on the mid-floor window (the "floor you are using when traversing to upper floor)

    Long distance traffic

Bmpz IC coaches (vmax 200 kph)

Oftentimes combined with 1144 or 1016/1116 for some intercity services (tho REX8 Wien - Marchegg has started using em lately, if they continue to use em when the service is renewed to Bratislava, remains to be seen)

RailJet / NightJet (vmax 230 kph; many NightJets are limited to 160 kph due to sometimes including freight wagons for cars)

Probably the most requested Austrian train on this forum... OBB has opted for a highspeed push-pull train instead of classic EMU... I mean, need I say more of this legendary train? Ok :D ... First and partly second generation use 1016/1116 Taurus as loco, with cab car at the other end, and newer generation uses Vectron or Vectron 230 as loco with Vectron-shaped cab car

Hopefully we see more Austrian content and rolling stock in near future... cheers :)

for vintage/retro fans, a 4020 would be cool... tho it "only" can do 120 kph, since it is an EMU, it can achieve those speeds rather quickly, which is why in the past (and still living on today) it was the face of Vienna S-Bahn and other regional networks (there is also 5040, which I believe is a more modern version of this one)

Would love to see that in the game....... Especially the 2016 "Hercules" & both Siemens Desiro classic CityJet and ML.
