I've done some tinkering in the editor now to the extent I have imported SRTM and Lidar data and got my Maps API set up. Creating tiles one-by-one is rather tedious, are there any ways to speed this process up?
On the left pannel, in tile placement, under tool settings can be set the number of "Tiles around Current". I cannot go over 3 * 3 because of issues with some floating terrain. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/two-possible-bugs-terrain-and-tod.74293/
I just grabbed my Maps API key and stuck it in the tab. Only seems to work on hybrid mode though, but that’s ok for now.
Sorry to be thick but which set of menus or subs is that in? I found it once by accident but couldn’t get back to it. IMHO adding a kml file is something that should be done via the route setup screen, would make it far easier than burying it away.
In the viewport there’s a Maps icon, click on that and some options come up. Stick your API key in and enable hybrid mode works for me.
Well I got the overlay menu to come up, entered my API key, lots of bits seemed to stream in but nothing overlaid in the world. Now I can't get the overlay menu to appear again. Sigh.
There are console commands that will build the whole route's worth of tiles with dem for you - i'm just learning about it myself. I'll outline it all in the tutorial i'm putting together. Matt.
I thought that you guys would have something like that. I also thought that you guys would somehow even use a shapefile or kml to auto-generate tracks. (I have messed with something like that on TS Classic, it outputted some yucky results, for obviuos reasons so I abandoned it) The TransDEM tool you can buy for Trainz also auto-generates tracks from shapefiles and the likes, but quite a lot of it is unuseable in the end. So I presume that would not be in TSW either.
Transdem is a very powerful tool, so much so that it’s easy to get carried away and extract long routes you could never actually hope to finish in a lifetime. I never really bothered with the autogenerated track as it doesn’t apply gradients etc. and with a decent mapping overlay you can see where you need to lay it anyway.
The only Auto-generated track that works there, is the 3D CAD option, Which unfortunately most people dont have access to. There is some available, And when its used, it does work as intended, but you need to make sure there are no defects or other rubbish in the CAD files.
