As it was mentioned briefly in a main forum thread earlier and don’t think it’s been discussed enough in its own right yet thought I would kick one off… Steam store page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3331320/Back_in_Service_a_Metro_Driver/ Schaunpowaz YT overview: Looks quite interesting and putting on my wishlist for now. Other than Sean’s clip just wondering if anyone else has tried this and can share experience? Always a bit wary of early access, though in fairness the team behind this look to be personally invested and enthusiastic about the project.
Okay, first thoughts… Pros It does look nice and although UE it runs nice and smooth (DTG take note). Sounds are good. Physics seem reasonable. Cons As it stands the early access route is very short. Only takes about 15 mins to drive. Controls can be confusing. Most functions are from the keyboard or joypad but some like turning off the cab, setting the destination or contacting the signaller need to be done by looking at a sweet spot. There is no overarching timetable. You just generate a run, set up the train and go. But timings are very tight. Also not clear what, if any, method the game uses to track your progress or continue where you left off. There's no hard save, per se. Documentation very basic. It crashed with a fatal error (UE) when I got to the end of my second run. So currently pondering whether to stick with it or refund. There's really not a whole lot there for £13.50 and while more is promised you really can never tell with early access.
Sorry for another follow on post… Trying to load the game for a second session the graphics defaulted to a small window in the top left of the screen, with my options reset from 4K full screen to 1920 x 1080 windowed. Bit of a tussle to get them back again. Then found myself dumped at a random station not where I had been prior to the earlier crash. At this stage really more of a proof of concept than something worth £13.50. So have refunded for now and will wait out a few months see how it grows. It’s a positive refund in that I can see the potential but should be out as either a free demo or very much lower price at this point of the game’s genesis.
