Hi, this is my suggestion for a TSW route from Basel to Zürich, Switzerland. The route is around 80km (50 miles) long and is operated by SBB CFF FFS. I will be focusing on the line that is part of SBB's IC3 (Intercity) and IR37 (Interregio) routes. Stations: Basel SBB - Basel St. Jakob - Muttenz - Liestal - Lausen - Itingen - Sissach - Gelterkinden - Tecknau - (Olten) - Dulliken - Däniken - Schönenwerd SO - Aarau - Rupperswil - Lenzburg - Othmarsingen - Mägenwil - Mellingen Heitersberg - Killwangen-Spreitenbach - Dietikon - Glanzenberg - Schlieren - Zürich Altstetten - Zürich Hardbrücke - Zürich HB Both Basel and Zürich have their own S-Bahn network. For this route the S3 line would run from Basel to Olten and S1 between Basel and Muttenz. For Zürich there would be drivable S11 services from Zürich HB to Aarau and S12 to Killwangen-Spreitenbach. AI could run the S19 to Dietikon and S5/S14 to Zürich Hardbrucke. Intercity and Interregio trains run along to whole route from Basel to Zürich aswell as Basel to Olten and Olten to Zürich. Rolling stock: Re 460 Electric Locomotive The SBB Re 460s are electric locomotives built in the 1990s and are used all over Switzerland on Intercity services. For this route they would be used on Eurocity, IC2000 and Intercity trains directly from Basel to Zürich or from Basel to Olten and Olten to Zürich. These trains would use either single or double-decker wagons with respective control cars. RABe 511 Stadler KISS The SBB RABe 511 is part of the Stadler KISS family and has been built since 2008. These double-decker trains would be used on Interregio services from Basel to Olten, regional services from Zürich to Aarau as well as on the Zürich S-Bahn. Stadler Flirt The Stadler FLIRT (Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train) is used in many parts of the world and is mostly used for regional and intercity trains. On this route the RABe 523 from the Luzern-Sursee DLC could be used as a regional train from Zürich to Aarau and the similar RABe 521 on the Basel S-Bahn. Other variants are also possible to make. TGV Euroduplex The TGV Euroduplex is a french high-speed train based off the Duplex, with the difference being that it is interoperable, including different safety, signalling and electrification systems. For this route the Duplex from the LGV Mediterannee DLC can be altered to be accurate to the Euroduplex, with a new TGV Lyria livery. These trains would run non-stopping services from Basel to Zürich and back aswell as Basel to Olten. DB ICE 1s also go from Basel to Zürich, but take a different line so they would layer in as AI trains at both stations. Potential DLC: RABe 502 LD Twindexx The RABe 502 Twindexx is a Bombardier built double-decker EMU used for Intercity and Interregio services. These trains use tilting technology to allow a higher speed in curves. The Twindexx would run from Basel to Zürich, Basel to Olten and Olten to Zürich. Vectron As the Vectron is pretty much confirmed for TSW, it would be nice to see is for this route, perhaps in SBB Cargo or Railpool livery but any livery would be fine. The Vectron would be used for freight operations and possibly a rescue scenario or something similar. TRAXX Even though the BR 185 is getting boring, I don't see any harm in an SBB Cargo reskin for this route. It would add even more variation to this route. A Railpool reskin for the BR 187 would also be nice as I think that train deserves another chance. IR36 Extension The IR36 line is a good idea for a future extension for this route. The IR36 is a different line which also runs from Basel to Zürich. It would add more service variation for Interregio trains, make the ICE 1 drivable and maybe add more opportunities for freight. It would also extend the Basel S-Bahn S1 line and the Zürich S-Bahn S12 and S19 lines. Stations on the IR36 are: Basel SBB - Basel St. Jakob - Muttenz - Pratteln - Pratteln Salina Raurica - Kaiseraugst - Rheinfelden Augarten - Rheinfelden - Möhlin - Mumpf - Stein-Säckingen - Eiken - Frick - Turgi - Baden - Wettingen - Neuenhof - Dietikon - Glanzenberg - Schlieren - Zürich Altstetten - Zürich Hardbrücke - Zürich HB Summary I believe that this is a great idea for a Swiss route for Train Sim World. It has a decent amount of rolling stock, service variety, DLC and extension opportunities and good scenery with the route starting and ending at major cities with many urban areas, forests and mountains. Most licenses seem to be in place. The length of the route is reasonable for TSW standards. The two previous swiss routes have been decent but quite short and a bit lackluster so I believe that third time will be the charm. I am not from Switzerland and don't know much about their railways, so please correct me on anything that I'm wrong about. Excellent idea overall however you will need to model the two hump yards on the route Rangierbahnhof Basel Muttenz & Rangierbahnhof Zürich Limmattal because that's where the freight ends and starts between the two cities
When it comes to Zurich Limmattal there is a bridge that the development team can stand on to see the Hump in action. SBB documents has it spelt as Ablaufberg.
Good shout but I much prefer the older loco hauled era of the mid 1980’s, the EW stock with plastic vinyl seats that made Class 700’s look comfortable!
Great route; actually it is available, but inly for TSC. I do have to say that due to the size of Zurich HB, Zurich Limmattal, Basel and Muttenz I don’t think we will see this route in the near future- but hopefully someday!
we have had large stations that are bigger before, and some of the newer routes have been really long, surely it would be possible?
the problem is that the complete route is very densely populated. There are only small sections where you don’t drive through landscapes. The reason why KWG is that long is that the scenery isn’t as detailed as on routes where you drive through cities most of the time. And regarding the stations size: I don’t think we have had something as large as Zurich HB before- it’s like the Swiss Frankfurt!
the distance between the two cities is really short though. And if we were able to get Brighton mainline, I cant imagine this would be that far.
