I dont have many german routes but with the sale on ps5 now, i might get a couple, what are the best ones to get
Depends on what type of services you prefer. If you like slower, regional, diesel routes, Niddertalbahn is definitely the way to go! Personally I don't like the faster, straightforward routes that much. But if you prefer some longer services on an electrified, double-track main route, Nahverkehr Dresden and Linke Rheinstrecke have much to offer! And one of my personal favourites, and in my opinion an underrated gem: Bremen-Oldenburg is more versatile than it seems on first glance, it's really got a little bit for everyone
Dresden to Riesa probably still the best overall, though you probably need to add other routes to get all the layers.
in terms of quality, 100% niddertalbahn, if you prefer quiet and quant branch lines ofc. but overall, i would go with dresden riesa.
I like the Tharandter rampe/Dresden to Chemnitz because of the tilting BR612 and some narrow gauge tracks along the way. There is also an S-bahn line included, as well as shunting and freight.
I agree, Tharandter Rampe is another very underrated route. The scenery is nice and unique, especially for an older route. And the constant changes in speed limits and gradients make it challenging to drive, in a fun way And it's the only route which puts the 612 to good use, so far
Plus one for Bremen-Oldenburg! Mostly, I am into fast passenger services andcomplex timetables. So, in ascending order of preference, here are my 3 favorites: Koln- Aachen, Nahverker Dresden, and Frankfurt-Fulda: Kinzigtalbahn. Koln Aachen is under-rated and will be getting a makeover soon. I would also grab the Vectron. A great loco to drive and it layers on many routes.
I have just seen Ruhr Sieg Nord pass by several times. It is the first German route with several equipment, and it will allow you to know what you are looking for more precisely the type of route you are looking for, without having too complex equipment to drive. I recommend it to you, and personally, it's always a real pleasure when I go back several times a year.
RSN would have been instant number one, if it had gone all the way like the TSC route. But it was built in the relative infancy of TSW this suffered from being cut short and has never been considered worthy of an extension by DTG. Tharandter Ramp was okay but suffered from being relatively unknown outside of former East Germany. The 612 was great but the stopping services coming from Chemnitz require 90 minutes sat in a near silent 766 Dosto cab which is trial by ordeal for even the most hardened fan.
I would say Dresden Riesa, but I am also digging Frankfurt Fulda a lot... also cos it has this variety of different pathing depending on if you are an IC or REX/all-stopping
Another vote for Frankfurt-Fulda. Although if you have TSW5 I assume you already have it. Best looking German route is Niddertalbahn, but if that's not your kind of driving (rural bus line), then overall Riesa-Dresden probably has the best combination of scenery, variety and traffic. If your query stretches to include Austria, Semmeringbahn is really good.
I also dig Vorarlberg cos it has that cross-border thing and many neutral sections I like that functionality a lot
Best route overall is DRA, you have ICE, IC, RE, and RB with not one, but two branches. You also have cargo and decent shunting in the chemical plant. However if I can choose more than one, including all the layers, the ranking would be different, I would say: 1) BRO, like DRA but with better stock. DB BR110 and n-waggen cab car are both fan to drive and you can do pendelzug all day long between Bremen and Oldenburg which are both nice Hauptbahnhofs. 2) Niedertalbahn, best quality of German routes, best RB, interesting shunting, and hopefully one day we will have the DB BR 218 there (wishful thinking). 3) RSN, very scenic, nice RB service and by fur the best shunting of the game. 4) HBL, only because of DB BR 218, the best locomotive for me. 5) Linke Rheinstrecke, it is the linke RheinStrecke, it is the 90s, BR 103, BR 110, BR 628, and with more wishful thinking one day the BR 140 or the BR 139 for the cargo.
