Regarding industrial structures and other industrial assets, which route has the best for HEAVY industry, such as coking plants, oil refineries, etc? My research suggests Ohio Steel 2, but that mill looks awfully dated. If something better exists on any of the European or Asian routes, I'd hate to spend $24.99 just for assets that look like they were made in the MSTS era of the early 2000's. C'mon, no blast furnaces are clean light gray! I don't necessarily mind owning more routes, but right now I'm building an original route that includes a very dirty, grimy, blackened modern coking plant (or something akin to it). Pics would be helpful!
South Wales coastal runs right past Port Talbot TATA steelworks which has two blast furnaces, apparently these iconic landmarks weren't important enough for DTG to include though, but they slapped up some random warehouses and chimneys though so... In other words if you want decent assets, that fit a particular need/style chances are you need to learn Blender.
Do you want something North American or European? There are a few assets that are freely available, Coal conveyor belts and Oil Refinery pipes and tanks, some made by Great Northerner for predominantly American routes, (website below) or, various assorted European devs, Spanish, Germans, Romanians, etc, they may look out of place on a British route, of course, but, there really isn't anything else to use. DTG haven't included any Oil Refineries, or, Coal Mines, Power Stations, etc, on any routes really, as they would require more assets and time to construct which would make the Payware routes more expensive to buy. However, on some 3rd party routes there are some British/German Colliery Wheelhouses that you can utilise on an appropriate route somewhere, you'd need to kitbash something up to make it look realistic. It is possible to install tools on your own routes to represent the act of unloading coal and coke from wagons into Power Station Storage facilities, etc, but, you must do that yourself manually on a route that has those installations built on. http://golden-age-rails.com/rwscenry.html Cheerz. Steve.
As a former engineer at collieries and tin mines I have to point out that wheelhouses are on boats and what Steve means are winder houses and headgear sometimes referred to as the heapstead. Mines flood but I have never seen one float.
Yes, very funny, I lost my train of thought and couldn't remember the proper name, thanks for that. Cheerz. Steve.
