BHÉV is the suburban railway in the 2 millions inhabitants Budapest, capital of Hungary. It was founded in 1889, first with just horse tramways. In the years it had a lot of different owners, nowadays it is owned by the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV).

Four independent lines head into three directions from the city:

H5 - the line from the downtown of Budapest (starts in tunnel) to the beautiful city of Szentendre. It is 20.9 km long, takes 39 minutes.

H6 - the longest suburban railway line at BHÉV with it's 40.1 km to the south to Ráckeve, 73 minutes turnaround.

H8 & H9 - two lines together to the east. One of them heads to the historical city of Gödöllő, the shorter line is to Csömör. The longer is 25.6 km and 48 mins, the other one is just 10.7 km and 24 mins.

There are three different trains to the four lines:

MIX/A (originally just MIX, but it was reconstructed after the tragical accident in 1978) - the first two prototypes were made in Dunakeszi, Hungary in 1962. First they had just two cars, after that they put a third one in the middle. The pantographs are on the first and the last railcars. The train can be driven from both end of the train. Maximum speed is 60 km/h (originally it was 70 or 80 km/h). The seven remained trains are running on line H7 with the couch numbers 825-613-826, 831-616-832, 833-617-834, 841-621-842, 847-624-848, 849-625-850, 853-627-854.

MX - it was ordered in 1968 from east-german company VEB Lokomotivbau-Elektrotechnische Werke „Hans Beimler”. This serie came in 1971 to the hungarian company and it has a similar electric installation to the MIX/A. Sixteen trains came with the couch numbering 861-631-862 to 891-646-892, and they are running on the line H6 now.

MX/A - delivered between 1975 and 1983; almost the same construction as the MX, just with a few changes in the driver cabin, the position of the pantograph, etc... BHÉV has 75 trains from this with the numbers of 901-651-902 to 999-700-1000 and from 1101-751-1102 to 1149-775-1150.

All the 3 types work with 1000 V DC, and you can couple them into a six-wagon long train (MIX/A can’t be mixed with other types). The minimum lenght is 3 wagons, it's app. 55 metre long and 100 tonne.
