Birmingham Cross City is currently on sale for 10.49 down from 29.99 until 28th Feb https://store.playstation.com/en-gb/product/EP2866-PPSA15729_00-TSW4BIRCROSSCITY. Generally, I like the look of this route but was wondering if anyone had any particular thoughts around it please for PS4? Is it worth it? Are there any awful bugs? Thank you
This is my absolute favourite route theres so much to do, variety of services including stopping patterns, start and end points. I play on PS4 and ive not noted anything that could make the game play shift downwards a little. My only gripe is the lack of pax at BHM but thats just TSW for you. Amazing route 10000% recommend
Thanks Indege! Do you know if Hunslet is included with the base pack, or if you also need to buy the centro to get him please?
This is one of my favourites, definitely recommend. If you own GWE, RHTT and Class 37 you also get some extra services, not a lot of bugs in my experience too. Hunslet is a collectible but to have him in the cab you do need the Centro 323
Im not sure what Hunslet is from google it seems to be a red steam train, if it is then no I havent seen it you only get the 323 and 66.
It’s a teddy bear that was found near the pantograph on a 323. It now lives at Soho depot and has a twitter account
Thanks all - I have Glossop and really like that route with the 323 so I think I'll get this one too. He was thrown off a bridge and landed on a train. The driver rescued him and bought him to the depot where they now look after him and post about him often ~ https://twitter.com/HunsletTheBear
You are correct you can toggle ir in the centro 323. You could do it in normal one too but you cant anymore
DTG Alex DTG Matt - This may be a bug - or if not, please may you re-instate the feature to toggle Hunslet in the normal 323? Thanks
I thought it was centro 323 specific as well, but Indege thinks it was possible on the normal one before
Yeah, Hunslett was just a route interactive on DTG’s BCC (adding the Hi-Vis). Simtrack added him into the cab of their Centro set with their pack.
Well I dont really drive the centro pack 323 (only got it for AI) so im not sure maybe Im thinking wrong
It’s a very nicely done route they really added lots of detail. Would be a highly recommended route for you to purchase from me. Lots of variety with stoppers and fast services.
There are no fast services, they’re all stoppers with some leapfrogging stops with an alternating service.
I think it’s a much underrated route that nobody seems to talk about much. It’s a very diverse route, it changes so much along its length, it never gets boring.
Well, let's not spin-doctor this dlc. It's a well-modeled A-B route with one commuter train, almost no AI, no depots and a ghostly main line station, not to mention the almost total absence of night lighting after sundown. Having said all that, I do drive the route occasionally in daylight because that one train, the ex BR emu 323, is quite a fun drive once in a while.
It is one of the better routes I find, if you are into it's style of game play (all stop commuter EMUs). The 323 in my opinion is one of the best made trains in the game, and fun to drive. Of the two routes with the 323 I find this one I've played more.
The route may be an A-B and A-C route but within that route theres so much to do. Four Oaks to Longbridge for example. The lack of AI??? Trains are every 10 mins what are you on about? And the majority of major hub stations in the uk that are in TSW are empty so whats your point
Pretty solid route, with a good train, probably one of the most polished tbh. Good mix of services, some decent fixes introduced over last couple months mean not anything major wrong, if you ignore the quiet New Street & the disappearing flowers in the collectible. One of the routes I play most. Well worth it at that price I’d say.
The majority of services are full-length, which can be quite a long run indeed. Just because it's the norm, doesn't mean it's good. Victoria on BML (even without layers, but especially with them) is praised because it has AI. Birmingham, Glasgow Central, Edinburgh (well, the Edinburgh-Glasgow version), Manchester Piccadilly, etc; are all criticised because they're dead. Just because the majority are dead, doesn't mean that's something to be happy about
Victoria is only packed because its dominated by 1 class of train the 377. I never said that it was okay because its the norm. My point was that under that logic you wouldnt buy any route
Nobody said anything about not buying the route because BNS is empty - or any route with an equivalent. It was just noted as a downside of the route; you only see 323s. And Victoria has 375*, 377, 387 and 465* services regularly serving it. *Layers
BNS is like a library but overall it’s a nice commuter route. I like the 323 a lot but I find myself running Glossop more often for the quicker services
When southeastern strike which is often Victoria is still busy. You cannot compare the likes of Manchester Piccadilly and Victoria in game as Man Pic has a variety of trains irl that make it busy where as Victoria could have just 377s and it would still be busy.
It's also a route of contrasts. North of New Street the scenery is well done but south is still lacking with a broken canal section, missing lineside fencing and on the Redditch branch MSTS levels of scenic fidelity (plonk some trees down on a green baseboard). The 323 isn't a bad train but given it can take nearly 90 minutes from Bromsgrove to Lichfield trent Valley stopping at pretty much every station it can seem like the never ending journey. And with only one save slot, means if you break off you have to come back and finish it. New Street should also be awash with Pendolinos, Voyagers, plus various other DMU's and EMU's but is like a ghost town. Another route DTG released with great fanfare but never built further on. But certainly at the sale price, worth getting.
Not really, I play on PS4 so theres no Southeastern layers at all and Victoria is still very much busy. My point still stands.
Yes, but the SE layers elevate it to a whole other level. Which is the very reason Victoria is still held as an example of a proper terminal in TSW.
Thanks Matt. If not already a feature - it would be a nice option for those who also own the centro please. I personally prefer the normal WMR livery, but would love Hunslet in the cab.
It's a decent route and great scenery but my issue is Birmingham New Street, it's so empty that for me it is immersion breaking. But that aside it's worth picking up.
